About me and my therapy practice

My name is Shanaz. I specialise in working with trauma, anxiety and depression in adults and young people. I’m BACP registered, with Accredited Status and over 14 years of experience. I trained in Integrative Counselling and Psychology BSc (Hons) at the University of Manchester. I’ve worked as a therapist with the mental health charity Mind, in the NHS (St Marys) in a centre of excellence for supporting survivors of sexual trauma, and in a secondary school counselling service with adolescents experiencing a range of issues such as low self-confidence, anger, anxiety and depression. I work with the London Black Women’s Project for women experiencing domestic and other forms of abuse.

I draw upon a range of approaches to offer integrative counselling: person centred, cognitive behavioural, dialectical behavioural, and compassion focused therapies.

I’ve run groups for adults and adolescents on coping skills for trauma symptoms, and for managing conflicts which arises from my strong interest in non-violent communication developed by Marshall Rosenberg.  As a school Mental Health Lead, I write secondary school curriculum materials on positive psychology which provides tools for building positive emotions and resilience. This background is something I draw upon in working with clients who wish to improve their relationships and emotional well-being.

I'm a qualified Clinical Supervisor supporting other therapists in their work, and have served as a trustee of Mind in Manchester for 4 years.

Currently, I’m offering counselling via online platforms and telephone.

About me and my therapy practice

I’m a qualified Supervisor/Counsellor, with training in Integrative Counselling and a BSc. (Hons) Psychology, from the University of Manchester. Over the past 14 years, I've specialised in working with adults who have experienced trauma; and with adolescents and young people presenting with a wide range of issues including low self-confidence, anxiety, depression, and aggression.

I've been providing one to one and group supervision for many years within the NHS and education. I‘ve worked as a therapist with the charity Mind, NHS (St Mary's SARC) and continue to work in a secondary school counselling service. I also work with the London Black Women’s Project for women who have experienced domestic and other forms of abuse. I draw upon a range of approaches including person centred core conditions, cognitive behavioural, dialectical behavioural, compassion focused and acceptance and commitment therapies.

I’ve designed and delivered group interventions offering psycho-education on e.g. coping skills for trauma and for coping with angry feelings. I've co-authored research papers on vicarious trauma and written curriculum materials on positive psychology to promote emotional resilience.

I've been working as a trustee for Manchester Mind for the past 4 years, and believe in the importance of promoting resilience and early intervention in mental health problems.
