About me and my therapy practice

Perhaps you're feeling anxious or overwhelmed, or struggling to make sense of your life, whether it's because of a recent event, or this constant "new normal", or a build up of issues and feelings over time that are getting in the way of your relationships, your personal and professional life. Maybe you've been trying to cope and "get on with it", but that's not working. In my experience, deciding to get curious about what's going on, face some challenging issues and think about how you'd like things to be different, with someone who will listen without judgement, can be life changing.

I’m a qualified Integrative therapist, trained in a number of therapeutic approaches, including psychodynamic, humanistic, body and contemporary relational psychotherapy. Depending on your needs, I offer short-term counselling to deal with a specific issue, and longer, more open-ended work to explore more long standing issues. At the heart of what I do is to explore, uncover and challenge unhelpful patterns and behaviours that could be hampering your life.

I also offer EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), a psychotherapy process that enables people to heal from symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences, which can range from one off events to a pattern of emotional disturbances that have been affecting you since childhood.  I am trained in CBT for Insomnia, and can help with practical techniques if you have difficulty sleeping.

My first session

I appreciate that coming to therapy can be scary, particularly if you haven't been before. You may not even know where to start to talk about what's bothering you. It's my job to help make it easy for you to open up, by asking questions about your life, your family and your work, what you want to get out of therapy, basically getting to know you. A brief chat on the phone is a good first step. Or, if you prefer, email me to arrange an initial session. In this session, we can explore what's bringing you to therapy, a little about your background and the practicalities of working together. I am here to help and support you, and this initial meeting is for you to see whether you feel comfortable talking with me.
