About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified and registered counsellor and psychotherapist with over 20 years of experience. I offer counselling, psychotherapy and clinical supervision with warmth and respect online via Zoom, and in a comfortable, safe and confidential location in Uckfield.
In addition to my Private Practice, I have worked for 6 years as a lead tutor on a BACP accredited Humanistic Integrative Counselling Diploma course. I help students from various colleges with their exam preparation and case study in the lead up to their exams. Check out my website for more information about my background.
Clients include individual adults and young people as well as couples and families. The aim of my work is to enable you to know yourself better in order to enhance your life and interactions with others, make informed choices, and to live life more fully. Sessions are client led and I respect the choices that you make without imposing my own agenda.
I keep up to date with new theory and thinking, and attend regular training and workshops throughout the year so that my thinking does not become “fixed” and/or outdated.
I am trained and qualified in online counselling, with 5 years experience of remote therapy provision, both as an employee for a UK wide organisation and in my own Private Practice. This includes video, instant messaging and audio sessions. I am supervised by a registered online practitioner.
As an Integrative practitioner, my work is informed by a number of Humanistic and Psychodynamic theories. Grounded in the client-led ideas of Person-Centered theory, my main theoretical influence is Attachment Theory. I believe that our attitudes, feelings and behaviour are rooted in childhood experiences and as such, my work is informed by various models of human development including TA and Erikson. Current and recent developments in neurobiology are also reflected in my understanding of how change occurs.
I work in a collaborative and creative way, and sometimes invite clients to use sand tray, objects, pictures, art and mark-making if appropriate. You may or may not want to try this, it’s your choice entirely.
My first sessionYour first session is free of charge, giving you the chance to meet me in person and have a "taster" of what counselling might be like with me. I will ask for some basic details before we meet, the first session gives me the chance to understand more about you, and what brings you to counselling at this time. Together, we can look at what you would like to gain from counselling and whether I am the right therapist for you.
There is no obligation to continue after the first session. You may want to go away and think about it, or you may want to book another session at the end. This is up to you. If you choose to continue, I usually suggest that we review our work after 6 weeks. You will have a better idea after this time whether you are noticing the benefits of the sessions, and we can then discuss where we go from there.
