About me and my therapy practice
I am a counsellor and psychotherapist and have an interest in how our early attachments significantly shape the way we develop a sense of self and learn to relate to others.
Sometimes early life experiences leave us vulnerable and subject to emotional problems later in life. At times of crisis or in very challenging situations we may experience a range of depressive and/or anxiety symptoms and our usual ways of coping are overwhelmed. I believe therapy can enable the individual to understand the roots of their distress and to express feelings and fears in a safe and supportive environment.
I am particularly interested in the way our emotional experiences, especially traumatic events, are located in the body (body memories) and how this can give rise to puzzling symptoms and sometimes underlie bodily symptoms and illness. I work with sensorimotor techniques to release and modify intense states of anxiety and panic and to address early childhood hurts and losses. These practices also include using mindfulness, breath work and visualisations to help empower the client to continue to work on their own outside the session.
Therapy can take time but is an important investment in our future sense of well-being and self esteem. Real change can take place, which includes an acknowledgement and potential acceptance of past and present experiences and events.
