About me and my therapy practice
I started training as a counsellor in 2009 and qualified in 2013, but have been volunteering in the field of mental health, particularly with organisations which help people experiencing difficulties with food and weight, for over a decade. In my general practice I have experience supporting clients with a wide range of concerns, but eating disorders/distress, neurodevelopmental conditions such as autism or ADHD, anxiety, depression, relationship issues and trauma are the most common areas I work with. I also have experience of counselling in a local high school, seeing students with a variety of worries including low mood, exam stress, sexuality and racially motivated bullying, self harm and abuse issues.
I welcome and aim to practice in an affirmative way with clients who identify as gender or sexually diverse, including but not limited to people who identify as one or more of binary or non-binary trans, queer, lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, asexual, and poly.
I see clients at a quiet health centre a five minute walk from Four Lane Ends interchange, and sessions are £40 per hour. The first session is £20. The reason for this reduced rate is that the success of counselling is often related to the relationship you build with your counsellor, so it’s really important that you get an idea of whether you can work with me without having to make too much of a commitment before the first session.
I am committed to continuing professional development. Since finishing my counselling degree, I have completed courses on topics such as autism in women, sexual abuse, and structural dissociation, and have gained two Masters in Psychology (MSc and MRes). This September I will be starting a PhD on the impact of trauma on autistic people.
