About me and my therapy practice
Life can be challenging. Different events and experiences can lead us to struggle with negative thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Counselling can help you make sense of what you're going through. How often have you spoken with someone only to be interrupted, spoken over or have the conversation changed before you could say what you wanted to say? Counselling provides the space for you to speak and be heard. Through exploration and reflection you will gain a better understanding of yourself and what you need to change your life for the better.
I have a lot of experience in working with addiction, depression and anxiety, but I can work with a wide range of issues. I am an Accredited member of the BACP. My training is in Person Centred counselling, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy & Psychodynamic. As an Integrative counsellor I blend these approaches to suit each client's individual needs.
I offer a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences. I will treat you with warmth and respect, and I will truly listen to you. I'm here to help you find the answers you are searching for.
I'm currently only offering telephone sessions.
The Covid-19 pandemic has meant I've had to work from home. At first I was unsure about how successful counselling over the telephone would be, but I soon learned it was just as effective as face-to-face counselling.
For many people, being able to have counselling over the phone in their own home has been very beneficial. People have felt more able to talk about things they maybe couldn't have spoken about face-to-face. It's an especially helpful mode of counselling for those who suffer from anxiety, low self-esteem and depression. It helps to take some of the nerves away that people felt at the idea of working with someone in person. Telephone sessions are also a fantastic option for people who are short on time as it cuts out all travel time.
I have been doing counselling sessions over the telephone since March 2020. I have also completed Remote Working Training (delivered by ASCERT).
My first session
The first session can always been nerve wracking. We will discuss what counselling is and how we will work together. You can tell me what's brought you to counselling and we can discuss what your needs and goas are for therapy. You can ask me any questions about the counseling process and share any worries you might have about counselling.
We will go through our contract together (I can email this to you before your first session). The contract explains the practical side of things such as confidentiality, methods of contact and payment info.
Counselling can be challenging at times as you explore difficult thoughts, feelings and experiences. As your counsellor I will create a safe and non-judgmental space for you. At the end of the first session you can decide if you'd like to continue with more sessions, or perhaps you'd like a few days to decide. There is no pressure to continue on with sessions if you have changed your mind or feel it's not quite the right "fit" between us.
