I am currently offering counselling sessions on the following days: Mondays, Tuesday afternoons, Wednesday afternoon and Saturdays.
About me and my therapy practice
I am a person-centred counsellor who works in a trauma informed way. That means first and foremost that I firmly believe in the healing capacities we all carry inside and that it is possible to change, overcome unhealthy ways of living, recover from trauma, become able to relate to others in a healthy way, and to live life more fully. Non-judgement, authenticity and kindness are at the heart of my way of working. It is important to me that my clients feel safe, relaxed and in control.
When trauma happens, we are overwhelmed with emotions for which we have no real means to cope with. To get through we go into ‘survival mode’. If we have experienced trauma over a longer period of time, such as growing up in a dysfunctional home, we will have coped with overwhelming emotions on an ongoing basis. We might not even know that there is another way of feeling. Working in a trauma informed way means helping you to feel secure before processing any traumatic memories/experiences.
I can help with grounding, feeling safer and developing a deeper understanding of self, behaviour and feelings that might seem to make no sense. I will do that in a person-centred way, which means that decisions will be made together and at no point will a client be asked to talk about anything or try something they do not want to.
With any client I will first arrange a free of charge 30minutes assessment where we meet and I will explain a little bit in more detail on how I work, what to expect and the client can tell me what he/she would like to get from the therapy. If we both think that we can work together we would agree to 6 sessions, after which we review the progress and decide on the next steps. The length of the counselling depends on the client's needs. I offer short term and long term counselling.I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and adhere to their principles and ethics.
