About me and my therapy practice
Are you struggling with life? With our world changing daily because of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, the impact of our ‘new normal’ – including family issues, parental and work-related burnout, social distancing, health worries, bereavements and financial concerns – on top of our ‘everyday’ worries can leave us feeling sad, overwhelmed by life, alone, alienated, anxious and full of uncertainty. Talking to a trained professional can help to process these emotions and make them feel more manageable.
I'm Dawn Boultwood, a BACP-registered counsellor offering online and telephone sessions. I have worked with people who have come to therapy for many different reasons including: anxiety, generalised anxiety disorder, panic attacks/disorder, stress, depression, feelings of sadness, low mood, low self-esteem, low self-confidence, unwanted thoughts or fears, bereavement, fertility problems, relationship problems, family issues, parental burnout, work-related stress/burnout accident/illness, and difficulty coping with a past event. All these challenges can make life feel overwhelming, all can seem hopeless, you can feel alone, lost, trapped, directionless, stressed and anxious
HOW COUNSELLING CAN HELP
Counselling is an opportunity to stop for a moment and explore what is really going on for you with a trained counsellor.
My aim is to understand what your world is like for you, and what you are like as a unique individual, so that we can identify, explore and understand the specific issues that are troubling you and work together to resolve them. I aim to allow you to process any difficult thoughts or emotions, help you to put your worries and fears into perspective, feel hope where all previously felt hopeless, and enable you to feel better able to cope and in more control of your life.
MY WORKING PRACTICE
As a person-centred counsellor I believe the quality of the therapeutic relationship is key to healing. I work to build trust, mutual respect and the desire to work in partnership during my sessions, supporting, respecting and valuing my clients as I do so. I do this in a caring, comfortable, confidential and non-judgemental safe setting where clients can feel thoughtfully and sensitively listened to, and that their stories have been effectively heard.

My first session
I offer an initial, no obligation, first session at a discounted rate, to allow you to experience therapy with me first hand before committing to regular sessions. In this first session I will do my best to put you at ease because I am aware that starting counselling can be challenging. I will explain to you how I work, and ask you to tell me about yourself, the worries you are experiencing and what brings you to counselling – your needs and goals for therapy.
