About me and my therapy practice

Hi everyone, I'm a psychotherapist working online. My approach is integrative, meaning I use different therapy methods, such as EMDR, that will help with your recovery process. My speciality is working with trauma, specifically sexual trauma and childhood trauma. When we are faced with challenges in our life the opportunity to discuss with someone impartial who will not judge you, can be a positive step. My experience enables me to support you to make sense of your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Together we can identify what might be stopping you from reaching your full potential.

Practice description

As mentioned, my area of expertise is working with sexual trauma, having worked within NHS as a senior trauma therapist & a psychological therapist. Alongside my private practice I work as a trauma therapist for a charity that specialises in sexual trauma.

I also have experience of working with a wide range of difficulties such as anxiety,  workplace stress and interpersonal relationship issues.

My approach to working with trauma is integrative, however, I am also trained in EMDR. Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful healing method that can relieve many troublesome symptoms resulting from trauma.

EMDR has also been applied to other problems including anxiety, sexual abuse and phobias. When a disturbing event occurs, it can get locked in the brain with the images, sounds, thoughts, feelings, and body sensations. EMDR seems to stimulate the information and allows the brain to process the experience.

The bilateral stimulation of movement, tones or tapping, helps to process the material. It is your own brain doing the healing and you are the one in control.

EMDR is a non-drug, non-hypnotic psychotherapy procedure. EMDR is not a single session process, but has an 8 phase treatment protocol.

I am a qualified clinical supervisor and work with therapists and with organisations offering a reflective space .

A consistent learner with a curiosity of human behaviour has led me to pursue a PhD with my topic in the area of sexual trauma.

I will endeavour to help and support you gain some clarity with how and why you are feeling the way you are, and work with you to help you feel that sense of self again.

I am a firm believer that having some knowledge and perspective on why we feel the way we do can be very powerful in the healing process.

My first session

I understand it is important for you to find the right therapist,  therefore, I offer an initial free telephone consultation so that we can explore what is going on for you and also to have an opportunity for you to see how I work and if we could work together.

About me and my therapy practice

I am a considerate and curious supervisor with a diverse background and a particular interest in supporting those who work with trauma, particularly sexual trauma. Within supervision sessions I work with the seven-eyed model (Hawkins & Shohet) in mind, additionally with a positive focus on the therapist/supervisor relationship.

As with any therapeutic relationship, I think it is important to view the therapist as a whole person, both professional and personal, who brings themselves with all aspects of their life experience to the supervision session.

My own therapeutic background is diverse, having worked in education, social care, charities, EAP and within the NHS. This enables me to have a broad understanding of different workplace dynamics and expectations.

I was a late starter to education, but this has enabled me to work through many issues that impact the learning experience as therapists, such as imposter syndrome. I hold a BA in Psychology, M.Sc. in Forensic Psychology and a M.Sc. in Counselling and Psychotherapy (PCT & CBT). I am currently a PhD student with my topic and my area of interest focused on interpreters and survivors of sex trafficking.

My supervision work entails working as an individual supervisor in both clinical and non-clinical organisations. I am also clinical group supervisor for a charity that supports survivors of trauma and institutional abuse.

As well as working as a therapist with a charity that supports survivors of sexual trauma, I am also a BACP accredited therapist working in private practice. I completed my supervision training in the Manchester Institute of Psychotherapy.

Practice description

My approach is integrative, having worked as a psychological therapist and senior trauma therapist within the NHS, I like to work with a formulated approach. Collaboratively with the client's presentation, goals and expectations in mind, I pull from my training in trauma, using EMDR, TARGET model, and REWIND Therapy. My CBT training, and my additional training in ACT and DBT training allows me to offer the client/supervisee options to work through their presenting issues. My initial training in PCT instils my core principles as a therapist and supervisor.

My varied experience has offered me a wide variety of clients and this has given me the opportunity to explore alternative ways of working, particularly with neurodivergent clients. I have discovered the use of free association works well with trauma and neurodivergent clients as well as creative approaches.

My focus is on the client as the individual, offering a space for clients to explore and process at their own pace.
