About me and my therapy practice

Working since 1994, I have come to appreciate the preciousness and complexity of human life. Anything that you allow me to understand about you or explore with you is valued and handled with sensitivity and respect.

There is no ‘typical’ counsellor or psychotherapist. You can make a single appointment and decide whether or not my style and approach is helpful to you.

Please do not hesitate to request a CV or ask about my working style, experience, accreditation and education.

My work involves getting to know all aspects of you in time, without prying or making judgments. You decide what is good to share. When I sometimes ask questions, it's either to understand your situation better or to help us reflect more deeply.

Practice description

My academic training is in psychodynamic and systemic modalities and my highest specialism is in relationships, whether with yourself or others.

The mentioned modalities and my specialism help with:

1- Exploring ‘who’ you are and what defines you.

2- Appreciating the impact of childhood experiences in adult life.

3- Assisting you to nurture and maintain a meaningful relationship with yourself, others and life.

Experiences such as mental health difficulties, loss, loneliness, strong emotions or lack of them, all fall more or less under these three areas and are explored.

I am PSA, ICO and PPR registered and comply with GDPR.

My first session

You can book by making a call or emailing me. It would be easier if you email, because then I can send you more information.

THE FIRST FULL SESSION is as confidential and therapeutic in nature as any other session. It is an opportunity for you to experience what working with me is like without any obligation. This is also where you can ask questions relating to what you are looking for and we can think together about the next step.

About me and my therapy practice

SUPPORTIVE SUPERVISION / CONSULTATION FOR PROFESSIONALS:

If you are a counsellor in training , experienced therapist, supervisor, manager or work with people and would like support, get in touch.

I am a qualified supervisor, providing online (live video and confidential email) and face-to-face supervision / consultation since 1997.

Over the past decades I have provided supervision for individuals and groups of counsellors, psychotherapists and supervisors as well as group workers, project workers, trainers and managers in various professions. I have also provided supervision support for organisations such as Mind, Relate, Exeter College, Devon County Council, Exeter and Falmouth Universities.

Practice description

Online skills:

I am trained in online therapy skills and have been providing supervision for professionals via live video and email for many years.

Modalities:

My therapeutic work with clients is mainly informed by psychodynamic and systemic (integrative) modalities. However, my supervision training and experience has equipped me to be inclusive and adaptable. Working with people of various professions as well as therapists and supervisors who use other modalities has hugely widened and fine-honed my practice over the years.

Accountability:

I see it as my responsibility to support you and the people in your care.

If you are in training, my responsibility is to help you grow in confidence and develop your own style of working, with a full awareness of the ethical and safety issues that you will face when working with clients. To this end, much of our focus will be on your own personal and professional wellbeing as a learning practitioner.

If you are fully qualified and experienced, I do not intend to teach you how to practise. I see our relationship as colleagues in different roles. My role is to assist you as you continue to nurture your confidence and wellbeing as a practitioner and serve and protect the people in your care (as defined by BACP or equivalent). Your personal wellbeing will continue to be an important component of the work.

Confidentiality:

I am registered with ICO and abide by GDPR 2018.

I keep confidential anything that you share with me about you or the people in your care. My clinical supervisor is included in this confidentiality where appropriate. Otherwise, I need your written consent for any disclosure. Exceptions to this include: if I judge that there is a danger to life, if there is a breach of client safety where immediate action is needed (as defined by BACP or equivalent) or if a disclosure is required by the UK court of law.

My first session

You can book an initial live video or email appointment, or face to face if you are local.

The initial appointment is a valuable session in its own right and designed to be helpful to you without any obligations. I charge for this as normal.
