About me and my therapy practice

Hello and a very warm welcome, I’m Louise (she/her/hers).

You don’t have to keep struggling alone with feelings of being fed up, worthless and depressed. You can feel happier, calmer and more confident and I’d like to help you with that.

We all need help sometimes, not because we’ve failed or messed up, but because we’re human! As social beings we’ve evolved to work well with others and talking things through is a very natural and healthy thing to do.

I’m here to listen, get to know you and together we can build a trusting working relationship.

I’ve helped people who have said things like:

“I feel so much more confident, lighter somehow”

“when I go on a date now I’m like “are YOU good enough for ME?””

“I got the job! I’m really proud of myself”

“When someone asks me to do something for them and it’s not what I want, I can say no!”

I can help you too. I can help you live your life with the knowledge of what’s important to you. Working out what you want and living alongside your values. Doing what you want in life can really change how you think and feel about being in the world.

I help people just like you to:

Say “no” when they want to. Tell their loved ones what they need from them. Realise they do deserve respect. Accept that life has ups and downs and have the capacity to cope. Ignore thoughts that aren’t helpful. Make changes in jobs and relationships. Feel ok to take time for themselves. Learn about their behaviour and take control. Be able to understand what they’re feeling and accept them. Make and maintain boundaries in relationships. Quieten their anxieties and feel more in control. Learn to let go and feel less burdened. Gain a fresh perspective. Feel valued and confident to take on new challenges. Smile at themselves in the mirror

Practice description

I really want you to get the most out of counselling with me and I have choices to fit in with you.

I work as a counsellor weekday mornings, afternoons and evenings so have flexibility even if you work shifts or irregular hours. We can meet outdoors for Walk & Talk counselling, at my room in Durrington, online or we can talk on the phone.

Walk & Talk Counselling

Counselling outdoors may suit you more than sitting in a room or being online at home. It’s a bit different and may be that you find it easier. Less eye contact, being outside and being able to move can feel more comfortable and make it easier to talk. I now have lots of experience - all seasons, all weathers and I am happy to discuss your needs with regards location and what you are comfortable with. Contact me to have a chat and ask any questions.

Face-to-Face Counselling

If you'd like counselling indoors, I have my own quiet room in Durrington. There is easy on-street parking.

Online, Phone and Email Counselling

Counselling from the comfort of your own home or work, or anywhere you feel safe, is just as effective, if it suits you. It allows access to counselling wherever you are and is really flexible to fit around your life.

It is also a great option if you find you have difficulty leaving the house for any reason (mobility, childcare, fears) and can to fit into a busy day, no need to spend time or money travelling.

Email counselling can be a great option if it's difficult to find the time to be alone for an hour - email might be the answer.

If you think I could help you please phone, email or text me. I look forward to helping you too.

My first session

The first free 20-minute session will be on the phone or on Zoom, whichever suits you best.

I understand, and remember, that going to see a counsellor for the first time can can make you feel anxious but please don’t worry. I will be warm and welcoming and our first session will be an opportunity for you to tell me a bit about you and what you want from counselling. You will also be able to ask me any questions you may have about how we will work together.

Talking to a counsellor who is outside your social group, who doesn’t have their own opinion or past relationship with you, can feel like a great weight off your shoulders. It’s a time you can wholly talk about yourself without any feelings of guilt. You’re talking to someone who will listen completely to you. No interruptions, no hidden agendas, no judgements and no advice. That’s right, no advice. I can’t tell you what to do because I’m not you. With some help from a counsellor, you can learn to trust yourself to make better decisions, accept yourself and move forward in life to what you really want.

I didn’t realise I wanted to be a counsellor until I’d tried quite a lot of other things! Trying things out means we learn what we enjoy and what we’d really rather not do. I’ve enjoyed aspects of all the things I’ve done, but somehow I was always looking for something else.

Working at a college visiting apprentices in the workplace included well-being checks and they talked to me. I mean, not just about college but about their lives and struggles. So I took evening classes as I felt I needed more skills to be helpful, and started on my counselling journey. That was a number of years ago now and I have finally found what I want to do.

I have a wealth of life experience to bring to my work and look forward to being on your personal journey with you.
