About me and my therapy practice
I work from a Counselling and Psychotherapy Centre in Chester city centre, where I would see clients face to face. However, I am currently offering online counselling or telephone therapy in the current COVID 19 pandemic whilst face to face counselling is not possible.
I have RELATE couples counselling training. I am registered with BUPA as a provider of therapy and WPA and WPA Protocol as a Provider.
In addition, I offer counselling supervision to qualified and trainee practitioners.
My first session
Clients may come to counselling for the first time feeling anxious and unsure what to expect. It is important then at the first session, for me to explain to a client what counselling is and how I see it progressing. I would therefore explain that the first session is a taster session, both for me, the therapist, and the client, so that both parties can get an idea whether there is a good fit and that the relationship is likely to work or not. The client can get a feel of what counselling is and can decide if my way of working is what he or she is looking for at this time . S/he can take the opportunity of asking specific questions or requesting a particular focus.
At the end of the first session, the client may decide to continue by making a further appointment or s/he may wish to spend some time reflecting on the session before deciding to embark on counselling.
