About me and my therapy practice

I work with couples and individuals offering long and short term therapy within a private practice setting.

After initial contact, it is usual to arrange an  assessment session, beyond which any further sessions can be arranged.

After assessment sessions, clients who wish to proceed with therapy, can then discuss with me the arrangements.

Agreement is made with clients about session times and frequency, fees and cancellation  policy and holiday arrangements.

Practice description

My training began over 30 yrs ago and was psycho-dynamically based also including attachment and systemic theories. My in-service training enabled me to see many couples and provide thousands of hours of practice. My developing practice led me to a further year of study at The Tavistock Institute of Marital Studies.

I have worked in many different settings, and written and produced courses for schools, G.P.s, and nurses. For 11 years I developed and facilitated management support groups.

I use my depth of experience in a private practice setting, providing a secure environment from which to explore difficulties of a wide ranging nature for both couples and individuals

.I work with a mix of short term and longer term therapies to include EAPs (employer assisted placements), and family work.

I produce and provide short courses for couples covering specific stages in relationships.

These include:

1   Early Stages of a relationship, forming a good foundation.

2 Parenting, navigating the changes from a couple to a family.

3 Later Stages of a relationship, changes, family affairs, empty nest, illness and growing older.

My first session

The first meeting or assessment session, offers opportunity to meet, discuss the problems/difficulties clients are experiencing.

I regard this session as a most important time in which the concerns of the client are unfolded and I am able to listen and apply my thoughts and attention to help clarify and address how we might progress in therapy. I usually offer an outline of my understanding thus far in summary towards the end of the session.

This session also helps as an introduction to me and my practice, enabling clients to accustom themselves to the setting, the time frame and experience the working  dynamic in the room.

At the close of this session, and after any questions, clients are invited to think and discuss (if couple) in their own time. After which they  call me to discuss future work if they wish to continue.
