About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified Integrative counsellor, psychotherapist and a registered member of the British Psychological Society (MBPSs) and British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP). I hold A BSc (Hons) degree in Psychology and an MSc degree in Therapeutic Counselling.
My clinical experience ranges from working with clients in the NHS –IAPT services, mental health charity organisations such as MIND, and for a London University’s counselling service. I have extensive experience working with diverse clients which includes: Anxiety, Depression, Relationship difficulties, Phobias, Eating disorders, Panic attacks, PTSD, Emotional and domestic abuse. I offer short-term, long-term, open-ended face-to-face and on-line therapy.
I appreciate how difficult it can be taking that first step to reach out to someone for help, to just listen, and to begin the therapeutic journey. I place high value on providing a safe and containing space, without judgment to make my clients feel comfortable to open-up so that we both can work relationally together to help bring about the process of change that is needed. I also explore with my clients how early experiences in life have impacted them in adulthood. Therefore the focus of my therapeutic work with clients also involves identifying and making sense of how unconscious conflicts may be impacting one’s psychological distress and/or relationship difficulties in life. In order for my clients to begin to understand themselves better and gain a sense of resolution going forward.
The therapeutic journey will be centred from the outset on us working together collaboratively in order to help you overcome your difficulties that you are experiencing in life.
During our first session, I will ask you some questions about you in order to gain an understanding of your difficulties that have brought you to therapy. This will also help us to set some direction or goals for the counselling process going forward.
It is important at this early stage that you also feel comfortable with me as your therapist. Therefore you will also have the opportunity in confidence to ask any questions that you have about the therapeutic process and what it will involve.
At the end of the initial session you will hopefully have a sense of whether you feel comfortable with me as your counsellor to begin the therapeutic journey.
Once you decide whether I am the right counsellor for you we will subsequently continue our sessions weekly on a regular day and time. We will work together to explore what is causing you to feel troubled, and/or to gain a better understanding of relational challenges you may be facing in life at this point in time.
As the counselling progresses I believe it is important to take a review of our work together in order for us to reflect on how things are going and whether you may or may not have any new goals for your therapy.
From a therapeutic perspective we would work relationally towards an ending naturally, where the end would hopefully be a beginning as well, in the sense of you gaining new perspectives and clarity around your relationships and life choices.
