About me and my therapy practice

"Hi I'm Janice, I have supported many people through major changes/life transitions including bereavement, loss, addictions, anxiety, anything that impacts on life in a major way. You may be looking for help with an affair, family/life management issues, work stress, blended / stepfamilies, redundancy, illness, marriage & divorce,”

I'm an integrated / Person Centred Counsellor of Individuals and Couples, this means, I won't tell you what to do but I will support you to find your own answers, enabling you to make your own sound decisions.

I have been practising counsellor for 20 years, I work with individuals, couples, adult males, females, young people and more mature/elderly people. I have experience in most issues clients/couples may bring into the counselling room.

  • Individuals: Is there something concerning you? Would you benefit from speaking in confidence with me knowing I will listen attentively, without judgement? If you think you might, why not call me for an initial discussion and you can decide how you wish to proceed.
  • Couples: may think their relationship is ending, when they head for Relationship Counselling however the fact that they are going for counselling is, I believe, a positive step and often makes a real difference to their relationship. I have many years’ experience of working with couples, I won't take sides but I will help you both to listen and hear each other.
  • Young People: supporting and enabling young people to develop positive coping strategies and build their resilience in order to deal with work/ life/study/ social anxieties and pressures. I have found that counselling can offer young people the private space they need to develop the skills required to manoeuvre through their younger years, often leaving counselling with much increased self-confidence and esteem.
  • Elderly People: I enjoy working with elderly people perhaps coping with the sudden loss of health, mobility, or a significant other. They may have to move home, perhaps into supported accommodation, I will try to make it as easy as possible for them to receive counselling by perhaps offering home visits, if appropriate.
  • Bereavement & Loss: this has been for me some of my most important, rewarding and satisfying work with clients. It has been a privilege to accompany someone through their grief process and assist them to reinvest in their life after their loss.
  • Addiction: having many years of experience of working with addiction, I have a good understanding of the underlying reasons why people may turn to substances and knowledge and skills in assisting people through addiction.

Reassurance: I realise it can be  difficult to begin discussing your personal issues with a stranger, however it is my job to make this as easy as possible for you ,  I will always do my best to make you feel comfortable and I have been told by my clients that I am really easy to talk too.

Acceptance: If counselling is to be beneficial you, you have to feel safe and comfortable, the Client/Counsellor relationship has to be the right ‘Fit’. I would like to offer you a safe, supportive space and encourage you to be able to explore your thoughts, feelings, along with your strengths and your options for moving forward, in a peaceful environment, where you won’t be Blamed, Shamed or Judged.

About me and my therapy practice

I completed my PC Diploma in 2002 at Jordanhill / University of Strathclyde.  I have been a practicing counsellor for 20 years and have been supervising for 15 years. I’m accredited with BACP and COSCA. I have a Diploma in Casework Supervision, a COSCA Certificate in Counselling Supervision and an additions Certificate in Counselling Supervision. I am also an accredited COSCA Trainer and have delivered the COSCA Certificate in Counselling Supervision several times.

For many years I was employed as the Senior Practice Supervisor in a large counselling organisation, which presented me with the wonderful opportunity to supervise numerous counsellors from diverse backgrounds and modalities; from PhD Students / Trainee Counsellors to Counsellors with their Masters in Counselling.

Early in my career, I was employed as a counsellor for young people, I worked in many setting such as Schools Universities, Prisons and within the Addictions field. I have been trained in other modalities such as CBT and SFT, I have worked with most of the issues which clients can bring into the counselling room.

I thoroughly enjoy supervising and I would like to offer potential supervisees a safe, comfortable, and supportive space for them to be free to explore their thoughts and feelings about themselves, their clients /their counselling practice and for them to be able to develop and reach their full potential as a counsellor. I feel privileged being part of and sharing in the supervisee’s journey, I would like to work collaboratively with students supporting them through their personal and professional development.

My availability is flexible and I can provide evening appointments.

My fee for students’ supervision is £35 per hour, however, a sliding scale may be available dependant on individual financial circumstances.

I am happy to meet for an initial session, free of charge in order to see if we have a good ‘fit’ for the supervisory relationship.
