About me and my therapy practice

Throughout my personal life and long professional careers, I’ve acquired huge experience helping others with a diverse range of issues. As a result I am naturally insightful of client difficulties and their effective safe resolution. I possess an approachable, down to earth personality with trained communication skills honed over many years.

A fully qualified, Person Centred, CBT and Integrative Counsellor, I have lectured in counselling in an FE College, and have provided therapeutic support to many students in secondary schools. I have also counselled adolescents and young adults within a young person’s charity.

Legal Work: - Trauma sourced from Negligence, Road Traffic Accidents, Industrial Accidents,  and victims of crime such as robberies or assaults.

Uniformed Public Services: - With both front-line personnel and the indispensable support staff experts, I possess deep insight into your culture, unique lifestyle and the associated issues you face.

These include trauma inducing incidents, complaints and discipline together with relationship, and child contact issues.

Understanding the Stress. Anxiety and Depression generated by shifts and "the job" I am well qualified to provide a secure, confidential space to support you in managing your issues as safely and effectively as possible. I will endeavour to fit around your shifts patterns and hectic lifestyle.

I have experience covering Legal commissions, such as client therapy for trauma following life changing events like serious road traffic accident. I also have insight and experience into trauma suffered by victims of crime. I am happy to undertake this type of work which often requires detailed preparation of client assessments and therapy treatment plans on behalf of clients for legal advocates in relation to compensation claims.

Practice description

I provide a confidential, safe, compassionate and understanding environment can help. Here, thoughts, feelings and experiences can be explored with a trusted professional. The effect can be liberating and help us navigate a path to a brighter safer and more balanced future. A range of professional therapies are available which including Person Centred Counselling. In this relaxed unstructured therapy you dictate your own pace and direction. A professional therapist alongside throughout helps you explore your world. This can make sense of events and assist you finding your own resolutions, a new direction, positivity and peace of mind.  Person Centred Counselling often lends itself to bereavement, loss, relationship breakdown. It can also assist when changing circumstances take us “out of our comfort zone,” leaving us feeling frightened and not in control. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) This therapy is a more structured and proactive approach. Often, expert guidance is offered to combat traumatic issues. (Always by mutual agreement) This can take the form of looking at problems from different perspectives. Understanding this can positively affect our mood and how we deal with things now, and in the future! CBT often lends itself to Stress, Anxiety and Depression, trauma and addictions.  Integrative Approach: Often clients respond favourably with a “blend” of the Person Centred and CBT approaches in order to achieve a satisfactory outcome. At all times this is done as a bespoke service to suit your needs, personality and situation.

My first session

During initial sessions I try to obtain a sense of a clients core issues and prioritise them and consider what cleints are seeking from the counselling process.

During this early  time clients are given an overview of the therapeutic process, and what to expect from me.  This is often integrated into contracting and an assessment. I am prepared to be flexible in initial sessions in order to cater for prioritised needs thus providing a stable platform for moving forward developmentally.
