About me and my therapy practice
Talking confidentially to an experienced counsellor in a safe, non-judgemental environment can really help you find resolution to difficult issues in your life. Counselling can enable you to feel supported as you explore situations and identify your solutions.
Just a few of the areas I have experience with include:- Anxiety, OCD, depression, relationship difficulties, bereavement and loss, work issues, disordered eating, low self esteem and confidence. In particular I volunteered in a local bereavement service and specialise in loss.
Another area of specialism is within body mind work. I am currently studying a doctorate at Exeter University exploring body mind connections. This provides specialism for issues such as: chronic pain, autoimmune diseases or inflamatory disorders. Additionally I am completing an Msc in nutrition and behaviour, and therefore can offer specialised skills in disordered eating.
My core training is psychodynamic psychotherapy. However I also work flexibly with you, which may mean we undertake CBT or look at strength based counselling, depending on how you would like to work. Equally, I have a qualification and experience in coaching if you wish to work in a goal orientated fashion.
Practice description
The sessions take place in SE12, in a large and well ventilated room. Each session lasts one hour. I am client led, meaning it is for the client to decide on what they would like to get out of the counselling. We may discuss different ways of working and what would suit you or how you wish to measure assessment of benefit. It is just as valid for you to place emphasis on how it feels to 'be' rather than 'do'.
My first session
At the initial session/assessment we may discuss what you wish to gain or achieve, and you may want to give a time span for this, such as 6 or 12 sessions. Equally it is just as valid to come for ongoing sessions for deeper issues. We will have regular check in's to ensure you feel you are on target. At the first session we may talk about what approach you benefit from, for example, using CBT, more traditional counselling tools, or indeed coaching methods with materials.
