About me and my therapy practice

The first, and perhaps, most difficult step is to admit to yourself you need help. You’ve already done the hard part, you are on to the next stage – choosing a counsellor. To do this, you will need some information. I work as an Integrative Counsellor. This means I undertook specialist training drawing together concepts and theories from the three main schools of thought (Humanistic, Analytic and Cognitive Behavioural) to create a blend of understanding about the formation of self. My work is based on the belief that relationships are important, as we form different types of relationships throughout our lives, some are positive, some not so, but they all have an impact on us. I consider the development of self in relationship with others as a continually evolving process. Therefore, the therapeutic relationship we build as client and counsellor is the foundation of our work together. Discovering your inner strengths and resources will enable you to gain a better understanding of those aspects of your life which may be affecting you, possibly leading to change.I will not judge you on what you share within our sessions, nor will I give you advice. I am here to listen fully to what you wish to talk about. I am not the expert on you, you are, and I am here to learn what it is like in your world, to understand what problems or fears you may be facing, and in doing so this may enable you to learn more about how you are in your world through my reflections, comments, or queries. I will provide a confidential and safe setting to enable you to explore your feelings, your thoughts, and your behaviours. This could lead to new insight and self-awareness, which in turn, may bring about a change in you and subsequently your surrounding world.

My first session

The first session will give you an opportunity to explore whether you feel able to work with me; it is space to ask any questions you wish about me and how I work; you can also consider what brought you to seek counselling sessions. The session will last an hour and will be charged at the reduced amount of £20.

Counselling sessions are tailor made for each individual client, therefore, the first session can provide us with the foundation of how we are going to work together. Remember you are the expert on you, it is down to me to be curious and understanding of what you experience in your day to day world. Teach me what it is like to be you and together we can figure out if you would like some things to change or not.

About me and my therapy practice

Supervision is part of the sound and ethical practice we as Counsellors provide for our clients. Although our work can be extremely rewarding it may place a considerable demand on us. Therefore it is essential to feel supported. It is imperative to find the right supervisor for you to enhance your practice as well as your and your client's experience. Supervision is a collaborative working relationship, therefore, I feel it is vital to provide a space which will enable any supervisee to explore their thoughts and feelings, whatever they may be, with regard to their clients. It is also important to recognize each supervisee will have different requirements, with this in mind, any working relationship will be tailored for your specific needs. Supervision needs to be an area where growth is accommodated for and encouraged. My supervision mirrors my therapeutic work, namely, I work from an integrative approach, taking from the three schools of thought; Analytical, Cognitive, and Humanistic. I believe it is within relationship where we grow and develop and this is a continually evolving process. The supervisory relationship will develop and it can provide us the space to discover inner strength and resources, and I feel it will, in turn, change and augment our therapeutic relationships with clients. If you feel you may like to explore the possibility of working together, please contact me to arrange an initial session. Thank for your taking the time to look at my profile.
