About me and my therapy practice

I have enjoyed over a decade's experience working as a relationship counsellor and therapist with couples, individuals and families. I also work as a clinical supervisor. Alongside my private practice I have worked for many years for Relate. At home, I work in a tranquil detached annex, with a view of an orchard, and a woodburner lit on chilly days. My home is on a rural smallholding in mid Devon (at the end of a rough Devon track). I am available on a flexible basis, and offer daytime, evening and weekend appointments.

Counselling and psychotherapy can offer a huge amount of support at any time when life has become unexpectedly challenging or complicated. Equally, it can simply provide a good space to explore and understand one's relationship with oneself and with those important people around us.

I am very interested in working intensively, when it feels like a crisis has befallen, or when there are geographical challenges which make some intensive sessions more manageable. Such work might provide for morning and afternoon sessions over two or three consecutive days.

If you think that I might be useful to you, please do get in touch by email or telephone. I will generally be able to respond within a few hours, and will endeavour to arrange a first meeting within days if required. I offer a discounted rate of £15 for a first meeting, which serves as a good opportunity to establish if and how I might be helpful, and, most importantly, whether I am someone with whom you feel comfortable talking.

My post graduate training includes a Masters Degree in Relationship Therapy. I am a registered member of the BACP. My training has embraced both a psychodynamic and a systemic approach, and I am very happy to discuss the ‘theory’ and the ‘methodology’ underpinning my work with any of my clients. Prior to re-training in this field I worked for many years in London as a barrister, practising family law, and I have also worked as a mediator.

About me and my therapy practice

I very much enjoy supervision with other counsellors and therapists, and it is has made up a significant part of my  work over several years.

My supervisory practice includes trainees (for whom I'm more than happy to provide reports) and well established practitioners.  It is important to me that my supervisees find me accessible, and I work on a very flexible and approachable basis.

I am ever mindful of the ethical dilemmas which face us from time to time, and also of the balance to be established in maintaining appropriate professional boundaries alongside maintaining a 'real' and authentic relationship with our clients.

Alongside my private practice, I have worked for Relate for many years, both as a counsellor working with couples, individuals and families, and also as a clinical supervisor.

As you would expect, I endeavour to create a relationship with my supervisees which allows for vulnerability, exploration, and growth.  I also expect there to be plenty of good humour and laughter (when appropriate!)

I work from lovely rooms in Exeter, and also offer supervision from my home, on a smallholding, in mid Devon.

A first meeting is always free.

You can read more about my clinical practice in my 'therapist' profile.
