About me and my therapy practice

I offer short term and long term counselling and Psychotherapy with individuals or groups.  I've worked as a counsellor since 2001 in various Education, Health and charity settings, alongside 15 years experience in the NHS as a State Registered Occupational Therapist, specialising in Mental Health and Community. I now work mainly with Adults of working age and Students or young people (over 18).

You may be experiencing pain or a crisis or have felt stuck, anxious or depressed for some time. You may have past or present relationship issues you need to talk about and explore. You may be struggling with addictive behaviours which are affecting other aspects of your life.

My core approach is psychodynamic which means we will explore and think about how the past may be affecting the present. My aim is to get to the roots of ongoing issues, to try to make sense of them and work through the feelings involved. Through the therapeutic relationship you can be helped to come to terms with conflicts and difficulties, discover new insights, and increase your understanding, self acceptance and life satisfaction.

I aim to balance support and challenge in a way that helps you move forward with your life.

About me and my therapy practice

I offer short term and long term counselling and Psychotherapy with individuals or groups. I've been a member of BACP since 2001 and have worked as a counsellor since then in various health, education and charity settings. My background is in Health and I have 15 years experience in the NHS as a State Registered Occupational Therapist, specialising in Mental Health & Learning Disabilities in Community teams.

I have a wide range of professional and clinical experience in the public, private and charity sectors, and have worked with a diverse range of people from different cultural, religious, & socioeconomic backgrounds. (See www.pippawatsonrees.com for more info).

I can work briefly (to a 4-6 session model) and have done this for many years as a counsellor in GP practice, with students at Oxford University Counselling Service, and at Oxford Brookes Counselling Service. My preferred way of working is open ended/longer term Psychotherapy however. When I have the opportunity I also enjoy working in Psychodynamic Groups. I usually see individual clients once weekly, but also offer twice weekly where appropriate. I have my own regular Supervision and peer support, and keep up to date with regular CPD activities.

I  qualified as a Therapist with a Bachelors Degree in Occupational Therapy from Exeter University, and after many years working as an O.T. went onto train as a counsellor whilst working in a Community Mental Health Team, gaining a Diploma in Integrative Counselling from Southampton University. I went on for further studies and have a Postgraduate Certificate in Psychodynamic Counselling and a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Studies, both from Oxford University. I later completed a Foundation Certificate in Group Analysis from the London Institute of Group Analysis. I will soon be undertaking further specialist study in treating sexual addictions and compulsivity.
