About me and my therapy practice

Seeking therapy is a sign of courage in the depths of conflict.

Counselling provides a regular time and space for clients to talk about their problems and stress and explore difficult feelings in a supportive, safe and non-judgemental environment that is confidential. I will respect the client’s viewpoint whilst helping them deal with specific problems, cope with crises, improve their relationships and develop a less stressful way of living. I do not offer advice, but instead help the client to gain insight and understanding into their behaviour and thought patterns.

I offer counselling to men, women, children, families and couples facing a wide range of personal issues and challenges. I place great value on the relationship between client and counsellor as this, in my experience, proves to be the most important factor in a successful outcome. I will offer you a safe, confidential, empathic and non-judgemental environment with space and time to explore your issues, fears and difficulties.

I'm confident that together we can work to help equip you with the necessary tools to help you face and overcome these challenges. Whether you're struggling with debilitating anxiety, overwhelmed by stress, or lackluster relationships, it is important that you know you don't have to be alone in this journey. I have the experience to help you achieve your goals, overcome these struggles, and live a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

I understand no two individuals are the same, and I tailor our sessions together to address challenges unique to you. We will work together to understand the root cause of your struggles and address those issues with long-lasting strategies, helping you get closer to the life you've always wanted.

Practice description

I am integrative counsellor and have experience in individual counselling, couples counselling, on-line counselling and supervision. I have also worked as a crisis worker for victims of rape and sexual abuse. I have worked as a counsellor in schools and the NHS and also for the local council supporting teenagers, as well as having a successful private practice.

I have specialist training in Couple/Relationship Counselling, and also with the Police, Forensic Medical Examiners and experts in the field of childhood sexual abuse and rape and also I hold a Certificate in Filial Training.

I am called upon as the local expert for her local paper for counselling advice.

I also used to be heavily involved in support and advice for TAMBA (Twins And Multiple Birth Association) and INUK (Infertility Network UK)

I work in private practice offering both face to face counselling and online counselling. I have worked with clients across all age ranges, from age 5, up to and beyond retirement. I have the fullest commitment to offering a service which is welcoming to all backgrounds in a supportive and non-discriminatory manner.

My first session

I like to use my first session with someone I want to begin to get to know you, and I want the session to be useful. Getting to know each other includes providing time for you to ask me any logistical questions about working together, as well as questions about my experience and therapy style. It’s also a time for me to learn a little bit about you generally and to begin to get an idea of your expectations of therapy.  This helps me to understand what you’re looking for and if I think we’ll be able to work well together. With some people, this takes our entire first session. For others, they want to get started with the problem they’re coming to therapy to solve.  It’s important to me that therapy feels useful to you.

At the end of the first session I check in with people to see how it felt during the session and if they have any other questions about me or my work. For therapy to be useful, we need to build trust together. This trust building happens over several sessions. Our first session is an introduction, which is the beginning of forming a trusting relationship together.

About me and my therapy practice

I provide clinical supervision to counselling students and qualified counsellors as well as other helping professionals providing listening and supportive roles within their work. This can be in the form of group or individual supervision.

I believe clinical supervisors can be lifelines for therapists.

Supervision with me will be a supportive forum in which to review and reflect on all aspects of clinical work in order to ensure the best possible outcome for clients. The relationship between supervisor and supervisee(s) is at the heart of good supervision.
