About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I'm Dean, from London. I am a  BACP Registered Counsellor and I provide one-to-one counselling to adults.

I have a full-time private practice in Shoreditch, East London, located next to Liverpool Street Station.

Starting counselling might bring up all kinds of feelings for you. My aim is to allow you, the client, the space and time to feel supported, safe and able to express what is troubling you. You may have a specific issue you want to talk about, or it might be a general sense of feeling anxious, uneasy or stuck. Perhaps something is not right that you can't quite put your finger on. You might not know what you want out of counselling. Maybe you would simply like to take the time and space to talk and to connect more with yourself, or maybe you have something you want to get off your chest. The counselling I provide is an accepting and warm space for you to talk about anything you want to bring. My clients often report that they feel relieved to have begun.

I have experience of working with clients from a range of ages, sexualities, ethnicities, backgrounds and cultures. My practice is GSRD (Gender, sexuality and relationship diversity) and LGBTQIA+ aware and inclusive. I will welcome you however you choose to self-identify in regards to your sexuality and gender.

Practice description

I am a Humanistic Counsellor, having trained in Existential and Gestalt therapy, while also drawing on elements of Person-centred therapy. I first took a therapy training course in 2004, and I now combine different elements of these approaches. I believe that we all act and re-act in relation to our environment and that we make sense of ourselves and of the world by using all parts of ourselves. This means that together we can explore your thoughts, feelings, patterns of behaviour and how you feel in your body.

I also believe that given enough support (in the form of love, closeness and feeling understood), we all have the capacity to learn, grow, and become more fulfilled. Counselling can allow us to access these missing parts of ourselves.

My first session

The initial session is your opportunity to explore what has brought you to counselling, and for you to voice any hopes, concerns, or expectations you might have. It might be the first time you have had counselling, or perhaps you have been before. There is no right way or wrong way to approach counselling - I am interested to hear your unique experience, and to work with whatever you bring. Our first session is also the chance for both of us to see if we would like to work together, and to get to know each other. You can ask me any questions you might have about my way of working.

I believe that counselling is most effective when we are able to build a trusting, respectful relationship and when my clients feel able to be themselves.

Please get in touch with a text or email, or a phone call. I will respond the same day, or within 24 hours. If my practice is full, I will still reply and it may be the case that I will have some availability in the coming weeks.

We can start with a free 10 minute phone or video consultation where you can let me know what brings you to counselling and to see how best I can offer you support.  If you prefer, we can go ahead and book an initial session without having the consultation.
