About me and my therapy practice
I am currently working online on Zoom. You do not need to be technically savvy and I am happy to help you with the steps of connecting for a therapy session.
I am an Integrative Psychotherapist. I value honesty, connection, choice, and integrity. I aim to make therapy as simple, transparent and effective as possible. I work with warmth and sensitivity, so you are seen and heard on a deep level. I am not afraid of feeling fear or sadness or being stuck in a dark place. I cannot ‘fix’ you, and I won’t know all the answers to your questions, but my love of my work, 10 years of experience as a psychotherapist, and my investment in helping my clients, helps me to ask some pretty useful questions. I believe that I can empower you to discover your own answers, to develop strength and emotional resilience, and to create lasting change.
Every client is unique. I will therefore collaboratively agree on an individual plan for your therapy, and tailor my approach to meet your needs. For example, focussing more or less on: specific current issues or in-depth exploration of how early relationships impact current issues, symptom reduction, using diagrams to explore and clarify, mindfulness, body based regulation and trauma work, behavioural approaches to stabilise symptoms, working with metaphor, images and imagination to deepen self-expression, self-understanding
My first session
The first session is an opportunity for you to get a sense of me and how I work. I will ask about what brings you to therapy and what you hope to change. I may ask you to fill out a questionnaire about how you’ve been feeling recently. This first session gives you a chance to see how you feel in the room with me and to ask any questions about me and how I work. At the end of this session we should be able to see whether we can work productively together.
If we both agree at the end of an initial meeting that we want to work together, I usually offer six psychotherapy sessions followed by a review. Clients usually experience tangible changes in that time, although deeper transformation is likely to require more time.
The review at this point is an opportunity to clarify those changes and your goals for therapy. After this initial period, we can then agree on a new, usually longer timeframe to work together before reviewing again, and continue working on this cyclical basis.
