About me and my therapy practice
I work in a person centred and existential manner. This means that the sessions are led by you, the client. You decide what we talk about and at what pace we go. I offer a safe, warm and confidential space for us to explore your struggles together. This could be such things as stress, depression, anxiety, low self esteem, or struggles with relationships. As part of this we might look at such things as your sense of self, your values and beliefs and how you wish to live your life going forward. And perhaps explore what is stopping you? It could also be that you are finding that choices in your past are affecting your present. We would look at your issues from your perspective with a view to gain awareness as to why you respond in certain ways to certain situations. This awareness will lead to clarity, which in turn will allow you to implement the changes you're seeking.
I have a lovely, warm and welcoming room in the heart of Llantwit Major in the Vale of Glamorgan. Due to Covid 19, I currently offer telephone and video counselling as well as Walk and Talk counselling which is socially distanced face to face therapy.
I understand that starting counselling can be daunting, so if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me via email, text or telephone. I am happy to answer any queries.
My first session
As I am not seeing clients in our practice at the moment, we would correspond via email or phone at the start. You will have received, filled in and sent back our contract and other relevant paperwork. If you have opted for video counselling, you will receive a zoom invite. If you have chosen to have your sessions on the phone, I will call you at the time of your appointment. With Walk and Talk therapy, we would meet at the practice at the time of your session. We would go through the contract at the beginning and I will tell you a little about how I work. If you have any questions at this stage or at any stage, I am happy to answer them. You would tell me about yourself and what has brought you to counselling and what you are hoping to gain from it. A lot of clients have several issues which they would like to look at and I would then encourage you to decide on what the most important issue is to you at the moment. That would then be where we focus our attention. I will keep an eye on the time and with 5-10 minutes left, I would start wrapping the session up, giving a brief summary of our session in order to ensure that I have understood everything you have told me. I would then ask you how you have found the session and whether you would like to book another.
