About me and my therapy practice

I am a qualified Integrative counsellor and an accredited member of the BACP. I can work with you over a long term, open-ended period, or for a short time frame, depending on your needs and requirements.

In my Integrative practice I creatively incorporate different therapeutic theories including relational, psychodynamic, humanistic and cognitive behavioural approaches, as well as mindfulness practices. What this means it that I’m able to be adaptive to you as an individual and that I’ll provide an authentic relationship where you can develop greater self-awareness of yourself and the different aspects of your life you want to explore.

My counselling experience in recent years includes working in private practice, in community and volunteer led settings, in higher education counselling and wellbeing teams, in young people’s services and with Employee Assistance Programmes.

Practice description

Sometimes life throws up challenges, conflicts and dilemmas, and finding a space to talk about these as they are unfolding can enable us to move forward.

At times looking at the past will be helpful, as can looking at what’s going for you right now or future plans or fears.

I will work collaboratively with you to explore what isn’t working in your life right now as you’d like it to, or perhaps what you’d like to be different or what is currently leaving you feeling stuck or struggling. By doing this, you will be able to explore different perspectives of yourself and your way of relating to others. This can enable you to gain new insights into yourself and interrupt patterns of thinking and behaviour that may no longer be helpful.

My first session

Finding a counsellor who you feel safe with is really important for your counselling to be as fully helpful as it truly can be. I always have an initial appointment with clients and this is an opportunity for us both to get a sense of what it is like to talk to each other. In this initial appointment I’ll ask about what has bought you to counselling at this time, and what you’d like us to explore together. In this first meeting we can discuss if you would like to work for a short period, or for a more extended time frame where we can regularly check in with how you’re finding the work.
