About me and my therapy practice

Do you find yourself prioritising the external world and the needs of those around you? Perhaps you feel different to others or misunderstood in relationships? It may be you experience self-doubt, negative thinking or notice yourself repeating patterns that impact your relationships. Whatever is going on for you working together, relationally we can begin to explore ‘YOU’, to focus on raising your awareness & understanding of the way you experience yourself, to identify your goals for therapy, to be open to learning new ways of being. Therapy is a commitment between client & therapist, to be open to wanting things to be different.

As an Integrative Relational therapist, my training gives me the flexibility to fit the therapy around the needs & concerns of my clients. I offer an open mind, a safe, confidential, non-judgemental space. I understand that clients may want direction from a therapist but I hold a strong belief in the potential of the individual to take control & change.

Therapy is collaborative & I am open to working on any issue you choose to bring. I am interested in & have experience of working in many different areas. I aim to be open to your experience of yourself rather than a label of ‘anxiety’ or ‘depression’ and so offer a free 20 minute telephone consultation as an opportunity for us to discuss working together.

Practice description

I am an Integrative therapist and take a relational approach to therapy - this gives me the ability to draw from a range of skills and theoretical approaches in our work together in the belief that the therapeutic relationship is central to change.

My first session

Your first session will probably be something that has been on your mind since you first reached out for therapy.  This initial session is a chance for you to tell me in more detail what you are looking for from therapy, what you hope to achieve and to begin to think about it might be to work together.  If you have filled in the contract already, I will ask you questions based around your answers but whether this is the case or not in this initial session there will be more questions than in a normal session.  If we have not agreed terms such as how often we will  meet and fees, this will be discussed also.

I may also take a few notes, pertaining to goals and expectations of therapy, again this is something I am unlikely to do in subsequent sessions.

You may feel slightly overwhelmed and this is not uncommon due to the nature of the work and the inevitable build up to the first session.  It is ok to feel what you are feeling.

You will have the opportunity to ask me in this session and any subsequent sessions about my qualifications and experience and anything that you may be unsure about.

If after this initial session you feel unsure about our working together it is really important that feel able to raise this with me - I appreciate this might be difficult to do in person and if this is the case I encourage you to contact me either by phone or email to give us the opportunity to talk about what you feel the obstacles might be.

Types of therapy
