About me and my therapy practice

My name is Dorothy, I am a qualified Person Centred Counsellor and Psychotherapist.

I decided to train as a counsellor because when I was experiencing difficulties in my life, I sought counselling and this really helped me to understand what was going on for me as well as the impact my childhood and early adulthood experiences had on me, which resulted in and changed the way I felt about myself. I passionately believe in the transformational power of personal counselling, having experienced it in my own life journey.

My background is in health and social care, during this time I supported numerous people who were facing challenges in their lives. This experience taught me that many people just need a listening ear and the time, the space and an environment where they feel heard, understood and cared about in order for them to move forward within their lives. Throughout my career I have worked with people from all walks of life, multi cultures and different backgrounds and I embrace diversity. A clients best interest is at the heart of my work.

Practice description

I offer a safe, non judgemental, honest empathic space where you can work through the difficulties you are facing and together we can explore these so that you can discover solutions or find acceptance. I am committed to making you feel at ease and to fully support you throughout the counselling process.

I have experience in working with people presenting with many different issues such as, addiction, depression, bereavement, abuse, anxiety, low-self-esteem, relationship difficulties as well as relationship break down. Also people that are struggling due to past trauma or difficulties from their childhood. You may not know why you are feeing low, depressed or numb and maybe finding day to day life too much, having someone to talk to and listen attentively can make all the difference to a persons emotional health and well-being.

My first session

I understand that making the decision to see a counsellor can be difficult. You can expect your first session with me to be at your pace and that I will have no expectations of you. You may wish to offload or alternatively to slowly ease into the therapy - either is completely fine with me and I look forward to hearing from you.

Counselling sessions are per 50 mins the cost of this is £50 per session although I offer concessions for those on a low income or for students as well as student counsellors in training.

I currently facilitate counselling sessions via zoom, teams, or telephone.
