About me and my therapy practice
I imagine if you are reading this, part of you may feel overwhelmed with the difficulties you face in your life at the moment, part of you may even feel hopeless. Sometimes making changes, however small,can feel challenging and difficult. I believe that to really understand ourselves it can help to talk about our experiences, feelings and our relationships with others.
I believe I can offer a safe and secure space where you can explore how you feel and think and some of the blocks that are keeping you stuck. Counselling can give you an opportunity to look at how you can make changes and restore some of the hope that you may feel you have lost.
Choosing the right therapist can feel daunting and it is important that you feel you can trust the person you are working with and build a relationship. For this reason, I feel it is important to talk on the phone first so that you can gain a sense of me as a counsellor or I am happy to meet for a one off session if it would help you decide if I am the right counsellor for you. It would also be a chance to talk about what you would want to get out of counselling and how we can achieve that together.
I would describe myself an integrative practitioner. This means that I have a core model which is a person-centred approach. The main aim of this approach is to treat a person with respect, be non-judgemental and be genuine and open. I use other approaches to fit the needs of the person I am working with. For example, this can be approaches such as Compassion Focused Therapy which involves challenging some of the critical thoughts we have about ourselves and learning to be more gentle in how relate to ourselves.
