About me and my therapy practice

Are you in need of help? Someone you can talk openly to about your difficulties, someone who is empathic, experienced, non judgemental, knowledgeable.

Could you benefit from a safe confidential place to work through how you are feeling, thinking and behaving ?

I have been a practising counsellor in Bath for over 25 years. I am an Accredited Counsellor with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) since 2001. I am committed to providing Counselling in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment.

As a counsellor and therapist I work with both individuals and couples and other combinations of family members. I work in an interactive and collaborative manner which helps develop trust and provides you with information and insights that you can utilise to address the issues you are facing. By identifying and naming sensations and feelings you can allow trauma to release from your body in a safe contained way. From here I can help you to reframe your thinking and the meaning to you of these events. I can also help you to identify longings and needs you may be unaware of beneath your feelings.

Developing the conscious part of you that is aware of the sensations and feelings you are experiencing can be invaluable in taking action to support yourself outside of sessions. I draw upon Neuroscience research to inform how I work. I am interested in working with trauma either from single events or from ongoing small t trauma. I draw upon the work of Peter Levine for understanding and healing trauma. I have trained in EMDR and I use some of the insights from this approach to inform how I work.

Practice description

I work from my ground floor counselling room which is in a building to the side of my house. I offer one hour sessions and I will give you a guide to counselling at our first meeting. The first session is an exploratory session to see what issues you are facing and to decide if we think it would be beneficial to arrange another session. I normally work shorter term ie up to 10 sessions but with particular clients I can work long term if we decide that is what the client wants and needs.
