About me and my therapy practice
We all deal with life's issues in different ways. Based in the centre of Tewkesbury I offer a safe and confidential space to help you work through the things that have brought you to counselling, in a manner that sits well with who you are and helps you view your situation from fresh perspectives.
I work in comfortable rooms on the site of, but separate from, the main buildings of two GP surgeries just a few minutes away from Junction 9 on the M5.
During this time of social distancing I am only offering online- counselling. Clients and myself have been very encouraged at how successful this has been and all who have accessed the counselling in this way said they would choose online again. I have use of an EMDR therapy app which means I can offer EMDR therapy online with appropriate tools.
Nothing is too trivial despite what others may think or say. If something is holding you back then it is important and worth spending time looking at more closely. This can be hard work as it might mean having to acknowledge difficult or painful thoughts and feelings that have been kept at bay but I can support you as you consider how to best make use of the resources you have within yourself that will enable you to move forward.
You may have a specific issue that is troubling you or you may just feel 'stuck' in your life. Either way, counselling, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy or EMDR offer the opportunity to work through your distress or 'stuckness' and can provide the momentum you may need to help you manage your situation more effectively.
In addition to my private practice I also worked as Head of Counselling for a charitable counselling organisation for a number of years and have also served as a volunteer counsellor for two counselling charities.
My first session
In our first session we will be looking at what has brought you to counselling at that point and to find out what you would like to gain from your sessions. I will start to gather some information from you to help me understand how your life is being affected by the issues that you are bringing and also to understand the helpful or even, unhelpful, ways you have been coping with your situaion. I usually offer a resource in the first session to help you feel you have a tool at your disposal in and between sessions, that give you a sense of control over difficult emotions. At the end of the first session we will discuss whether we feel this is the right step for you to take.
