About me and my therapy practice
I am an accredited counsellor/psychotherapist with one of the UKs leading professional bodies, the British Association of Counsellors and the Psychotherapists (BACP). I am also an accredited EMDR Practitioner with EMDR UK & Ireland. I am a mental health coordinator for a national homeless charity where I have gathered experience in coaching and supervising trainees and experienced counsellors. Throughout my role as a MH Coordinator I have received training in managing/coaching volunteers to provide me with a framework on how to best support my supervisees. I have also mentored and supported counsellors through the BACP accreditation process.
My work predominately focuses on complex needs clients who have received a diagnosis of PTSD, Complex/developmental PTSD, personality disorders and addictions. The foundation of my work is in humanistic counselling (Person Centred and Gestalt), I have learned to work in a creative and adaptable way using a range of psychological models, keeping in mind the principle that everyone is individual and unique. I don’t believe in 'working in a one approach suits all way', I will collaborate with you in finding a way that works best for you. I draw on a variety of additional therapeutic frameworks such as, Transactional Analysis, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral therapy (DBT) and Trauma informed therapies such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR). My approach is based on best practice, published research and guidance issued by the National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE).
