About me and my therapy practice
I have been working as a Therapist for 24 years, following on from a long career in social work. I have worked in private practice for many years and prior to this I worked as a specialist counsellor on an infertility unit for 7 years and also in a sixth form college and a GP practice.
I'm passionate about helping people make the changes they want in their lives and this has lead me to study and go on numerous courses over many years to train and gain as much up-to-date information as possible to offer the best service I can. I find that I prefer to work with a couple of therapies now more than others such as EMDR and Brainspotting as these are fast and efficient therapies. I work in an integrated and holistic way where ever possible and have your best interests in mind.
Choosing the right therapy to suit your needs is important and We will discuss this either on the phone or at your first session.
I specialize in EMDR therapy which can be used for Trauma, Depression, Anxiety and many other conditions. Brainspotting which is a relatively new addition to my therapies can be used for most issues and my clients are finding Brainspotting a fast and very effective therapy.
I offer a free 15 minute telephone consultation and I able to offer face to face therapy, after covid-19 ends, or currently 0nline therapy (via Zoom) Or telephone Counselling.
Practice description
I have a purpose built therapy room with a separate entrance attached to my house. There is ample parking and toilet facilities. There is one step into the therapy room and it does allow for wheelchair access.
The room is comfortable warm and well lighted.
The Centre is a 10 minute walk from Ainsdale station and 5 minutes from local buses.
My first session
The first session is a time to get to know each other, to find out if we feel comfortable in each others presence to work together.
You can tell me about yourself and what is troubling you if you wish, however its not always necessary to talk about your issues if you have PTSD or have experienced trauma. Often therapy can be addressed without going into any specific detail. Its useful to bring a brief timeline with you to the session, recording any particular shocks and losses you have experienced, especially events that have happened in childhood.
You may be feeling anxious and not know where to start, don't worry this is usual if your new to therapy and I can help you overcome that.
We will discuss a plan for you, deciding on which is the most suitable therapy, and what your goal for therapy is. Its difficult to say exactly how many sessions you will need but I can give you an idea and as we progress this will become clearer.
