About me and my therapy practice
A very warm welcome! The decision to start therapy can be a difficult first step towards healing, and finding the right therapist is crucial. Research shows that the relationship between counsellor and client is one of the main factors in successful therapy. We are often wounded in relationship, whether as children or as adults, and I believe it is in relationship that we can also be healed.
My core training is person-centred. Person-centred therapy, also referred to as client-centred therapy and person-centred counselling, was popularised in the 1950s and 1960s by Carl Rogers as an alternative to traditional psychotherapy. It is rooted in the belief that people possess an innate tendency towards self-improvement and that a person’s desire to self-actualise will guide them towards the best solutions to their own apparent problems. The therapist’s role is to co-facilitate the client’s own process by offering empathy, acceptance and authenticity within the context of the therapeutic relationship. Each client is viewed as a person rather than a disorder or diagnosis.
I am passionate about the approach that I use, and I love the challenge of my work with clients. I choose to work in a person-centred way because it is a deeply respectful and effective approach to therapy.
