About me and my therapy practice
A lot of people come to counselling with a feeling of being stuck, whether it is something specific, a general feeling, or an undefined feeling, there is something that needs to be “dealt with” to be able to move on in a healthier way of being. I can help you gently, slowly and without judgement work through the “something”
I started counselling at ChildLine and have since trained to work with adults and as a school counsellor. I am widely experienced at working with adult survivors of childhood traumas. I can help you talk through depression, anxiety, obsessive thoughts, and behaviour. If you have come to the wrong coping mechanisms or solutions, we can gradually find healthy alternatives. I have extensive experience in exploring suicidal thoughts and where they come from. Most of these behaviours are often symptoms of deeper, more profound feelings which can be slowly explored as we go through the layers.
I have spent several years working with children with autism in an educational setting and have an appreciation of the issues faced by some people with an ASD diagnosis.
I work in an integrative or pluralistic way. Integrative means I use whichever approach I feel is appropriate to what you bring and pluralistic is where you have a preference of style. I am not a big fan of diagnostic labels and prefer to work with the individual in a more holistic way; do your life experiences explain the way you are feeling or behaving in this moment. After some exploration we will generally find they do. This will help you find your own solution; defined, decided, and enacted by you. Misdiagnosis and a one size fits all approach never benefits anyone.
If you would like to explore these things with you, please contact me.
Currently I am working via Skype, Zoom or telephone, offering a fifty minute session.
