About me and my therapy practice
Respectful, compassionate counselling support for those who have experienced a change in life circumstance, a loss or bereavement. I want you to feel valued, listened to and understood. Whatever challenges you are facing I will help you to explore your thoughts, feelings and emotions in a way which feels comfortable to you and not overwhelming. I will support you to clarify what is important to you and find your own solutions.
My approach is first of all person centred, tailored to the individual client and focussed on the way you make sense of your own experiences. Therapy provides a way to release hidden feelings and develop new perspectives on your situation. I will help you to do this is a safe, supportive way. I want to provide my clients with the tools to manage their own wellbeing and will integrate techniques from cognitive behaviour therapy, mindfulness and creative therapies in order to provide you with resources which can help you gain new self-understanding and develop healthier habits.
As a qualified counsellor, I will provide you with a confidential and professional service, valuing your individuality and being open and honest about all aspects of our work together. I work flexibly providing short or long term support, and we will regularly review your goals for therapy and the progress you feel you have made.
Counselling options: I offer face to face counselling in the centre of York, and also by telephone or online via Zoom. I am happy to discuss the different options to help you decide what would be best for you. Whatever method you choose, I aim to provide a safe, accepting space which allows you to feel really heard.
Counselling sessions: usually last for 50 minutes and are weekly or fortnightly at a regular time.
Fees per session: £45 face to face, £40 online or telephone, payable in advance of sessions by bank transfer
My first session
Initially I will offer a free 20-minute phone call which will allow us to explore what you hope to get from counselling. I will be honest about whether this is something I can help with. This conversation will give you chance to ask any questions you might have, as well as providing a chance for us to get a feel of whether we would get on well together in a counselling setting. It is important that you would feel comfortable talking to me about anything which you might want to bring to our sessions.
If you decide to work with me, your first session will continue this process of getting to know each other. I will explore further with you what brought you to counselling as well as any hopes or expectations that you might have. We will also discuss in more detail how we are going to work together, for instance how many sessions you might want initially, and how we will review the benefits you are receiving from counselling.
