About me and my therapy practice
I am Trudi, a BACP registered counsellor. I am here for you if you are struggling with aspects of your life and feel you need to talk this through. You may be feeling lost and not sure who you are anymore. Maybe you do not wish to burden family or friends with your concerns and experiences, or maybe you do not feel you have someone in your life who is able to listen without judging you or without becoming over-involved. Maybe your main concern is that you feel isolated or overwhelmed and not sure where to turn.
Your feelings of distress, difficulty, flatness, shame, guilt, fear, anger, disillusion, emptiness or confusion may be related to your experiences of abuse or loss. Types of loss may be through loss of job, security, relationship, or you may have experienced a bereavement of someone significant to you. You may be questioning who you are and who you want to be.
I am here to help you gain or re-gain the clarity and understanding you feel is missing. I am committed to being alongside you during our work together. I am driven by my belief in human beings having the capacity to grow, learn and work towards fulfilment, if we are given the space and respect to be honoured, heard and valued. I will offer you a confidential and respectful space to explore, reflect and recognise the real you.
My Training and qualifications includes:
Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, CPCAB;
Level 5 Diploma in CBT, CPCAB;
Online & Telephone Counselling Certified Counsellor (Counselling Tutor, 80 hours CPD);
Grief and its Complications; Trauma-informed Practice; Attachment Informed Practice, 30 hours CPD, Portland Institute for Loss and Transition ;
Working with Suicidal Ideation in LGBTQ Clients, Online Events.
I work online and over the telephone with adults living all over the UK. I offer both shorter and longer term work
I am trained and experienced in working in a range of ways, guided by the individual I am working with, and their needs and preferences. I may draw on my CBT training and practices or my Person Centred and other Humanistic therapies, having recently trained in the NICE approved Counselling for Depression (also known as PCE-CfD).
What does this mean for you? This means together we may explore ways of understanding your experiences and the meanings they have for you, beyond traditional language. So we may use metaphors and imagery such as, ‘it’s as if I am in a dark tunnel or floating loose in the sea.’ We may also, on occasion, explore your inner dialogues between different sides of yourself or to work through unfinished business (such as unvoiced thoughts or conversations with those who would not or could not listen.) You may not wish to use therapeutic ‘tasks’ such as these and find that exactly what you are looking for is a chance to talk and be actively listened to and supported to reflect on what is happening for you.
My professional experience over the last 10 years has been predominantly in the field of mental health. I have worked for two local Minds and a mental health charity for people who have experienced homelessness. Additionally I have worked for charities supporting people living with dementia and visual impairments and I have worked for the fire service and ambulance service in community outreach roles. I have counselled with 5 different charities in 3 different parts of the country, including current work with a National Bereavement Charity. I bring all this experience together to support and value you as an individual. Together we will help you find the 'real you' and a fuller version of yourself that you are currently missing.
My first session
You may wish to contact me by text, voicemail or email. We will arrange an initial conversation of up to 15 minutes for which there will be no charge made. We can use this time so that you understand what to expect from working with me and for both of us to see if we feel we are a good 'fit', including if I am the best counsellor for you and your circumstances.
If we decide to work together, we will agree our first session of 50 minutes and in this session, we will go through a 'working agreement'. This will include my confidentiality agreement and the limits to it; my cancellation policy and ethical approach and the frequency of our sessions together. You will of course have the chance to ask questions too about the counselling work we can undertake.
Having agreed this together, we will begin where you are ready to begin- taking that first step towards a more fulfilled and clear sense of 'you'.
