About me and my therapy practice

I am an experienced counsellor and clinical supervisor working with couples, adults and young people. I have experience of working within the NHS; Relate; Schools; Cruse Bereavement Care; and the Hospice of St Francis.

It is important for me to work in collaboration with you so I can tailor therapy to meet your specific needs. We are all unique, and I ensure we build a safe therapeutic space that is individual to you.

At certain points in life we can all face struggles, whether its about the here and now, our past, or worries about our future. Sometimes it's for unknown reasons, and we might just feel low. I can offer a safe and non-judgmental space to explore these challenges, whatever they may be, and support you as you move forward.

I work from a non-pathologising perspective and understand that life can be very distressing. You may have been given a diagnosis of a 'disorder' and are struggling to make sense of how you feel. I will help you safely explore what has happened to you, whether it has been a traumatic incident, childhood adversity or other factors that have made life distressing and help you find a way to make sense of and better manage your distress.

Couple work - There are many reasons why relationships might struggle, from communication issues to changes in family dynamics and infidelity, to name a few. My aim as a couples therapist is to help you understand where your difficulties and distress are coming from and create a safe space to talk about these difficulties where you can both be heard and understood. Creating this space enables you, as a couple, to find more helpful ways of managing your difficulties which in turn enables you to create a more healthy relationship that supports you as individuals, as a couple and as a family.

About me and my therapy practice

I am an experienced Counsellor and Clinical Supervisor working with couples, adults and young people. I currently work at Relate (IAPT Therapist, Macmillan Therapist and Relationship Therapist) and at a Senior School (Lead School Counsellor and Clinical Supervisor). I also have experience of working within junior schools; an NHS Eating Disorder Service; Cruse Bereavement Care; and the Hospice of St Francis.

I am primarily trained as a Humanistic Therapist (Person Centred) and Relationship Counsellor (Systemic and Psychodynamic). I am also a specialist therapist and Clinical Supervisor in the IAPT provision of Behavioural Couples Therapy (BCT) for couples who one or both have been given a diagnosis of 'depression' and/or 'anxiety'. I have experience of working and training using CBT and Mindfulness, and I am currently developing myself further as a Family Therapist.

I hold a Post Graduate Certificate in Supervision and a Post Graduate Diploma in BCT Supervision and I work with trainee and qualified counsellors.

I aim to create a collaborative relationship with my supervisees which ensures professional, ethical standards are maintained in their work with clients; a safe learning space is created where they are supported with their ongoing growth, development and autonomy as a therapist; and their professional and psychological needs as a therapist are supported.

As a counsellor and clinical supervisor I work from a non-pathologising perspective.
