About me and my therapy practice

I am a BACP Registered and Accredited counsellor.

For over 30 years I have offered safe and supportive professional therapy & counselling, mostly face to face in Norwich and Norfolk. Whatever your difficulties, I believe it's possible to find a way through with good counselling/psychotherapy.

Since 2020 I have worked online only, and I have no plans to return to face to face work. This means I am able to take clients on from anywhere where there is connectivity.

I offer only short term therapy, up to 6 sessions initially. There may be options to continue for a further 6 sessions where this is agreed between myself and a client.

I work with clients from 18+, from all orientations and/or cultural background, who come with a wide variety of challenges and experiences.

I have had specific experience in relationship and minority issues, working with young people and in mental health settings.

I've worked within the NHS and for many statutory and third sector organisations as well as maintaining a private practice spanning more than three decades.

Practice description

My therapeutic practice is grounded in humanistic principles. My core training in the 1980s was in the person-centred approach. I aim to create a safe, respectful, collaborative space for the exploration of issues brought by the client, whatever these may be.

Over the years, through further trainings, experience and all that my clients and supervisees have taught me, my practice incorporates many approaches where myself and my client may feel these might help, but it is still firmly rooted in humanistic principles.

My aim is to support and encourage my clients to find their own best way of managing, getting through or exploring whatever difficulties and issues they may bring to therapy.

I try to invite a good therapeutic relationship, based on clear information/contracting, sound boundaries, and respect for each other, where I hope issues can be raised and explored, however tricky.

My first session

First sessions are much like ensuing sessions. They are an exploration between the client and myself as to whether we both think that what I am offering might be useful/helpful to them. I charge my usual fee for first sessions.

Prior to the first session potential clients will have received an information/agreement sheet, and a GDPR form.

Sessions from £60.00

Features

Availability

I currently work online only, mornings Mondays - Thursdays, and afternoons Wednesdays and Thursdays. I am unlikely to return to face to face supervision.

I have limited availability, but will have space for one or two new supervisees in April.

About me and my therapy practice

I am a Registered and Accredited member of BACP. I have been a supervisor since 1993, working with counsellors and psychotherapists as well as with professionals from other disciplines - youth workers, social workers, nurses, GPs etc. I work with people from all orientations where a wide knowledge and experience is required. I am trained to Diploma level in Supervision.

I work with individual supervisees in private practice, and as a supervisor for several Third Sector organisations, including Break, the Magdalene Group and Mancroft Advice Project (MAP0

My practice is divided between client work and supervision.

Practice description

My supervision practice, like my therapeutic practice, is grounded in person-centred principles. This was my core training in the 1980s.

Over the years, through further trainings, experience and all that my clients and supervisees have taught me, my practice would probably be described as integrative.

My aim as a supervisor is to support and encourage good professional practice, of whatever modality, through developing and maintaining a good collegiate working relationship of trust, where issues can be raised and explored, however tricky.

I believe that supervision works at the interface between the professional and the personal, with the focus always on the wellbeing of the client. In my understanding, there is a relationship between the wellbeing of the practitioner and the wellbeing of the client.

The supervisory relationship is key to the process, as is a clear understanding of what is on offer, so as to create a safe frame for supervision.

My first session

The first session is no different, except that it is often an exploration of the caseload the supervisee is bringing. An info sheet and a GDPR form will have been provided before the first session.
