About me and my therapy practice

Are you tired of living with self-doubt and anxiety?

If you’re struggling in life but can’t put your finger on the cause, uncover the mysteries of your mind with me. I can be insightful and analytical, I also offer my easy going manner and sense of humour. Based in Whitley Bay, I’m a qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor offering therapy sessions for adults experiencing all kinds of issues from relationship problems, grief, depression and anxiety, all the way to complex PTSD due to childhood sexual, psychological and physical abuse.

My professional training is of the highest standard, this and my laid back personality are the tools we will use on the journey to lasting positive change.

Practice description

I’m a laid back guy and this helps in allowing my clients to feel relaxed and safe, vital for working in depth on issues such as historical trauma, sexual, physical and psychological abuse which require a strong therapeutic connection and trust.

I’m an Integrative Humanistic Person Centred Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, which means I combine many modalities of therapy including CBT, Transactional Analysis, Gestalt, phenomenology… But I also have a sense of humour!

I’m creative in my style and have a flare for employing the use of metaphor, active imagination, Guided Imagery and dream analysis in promoting exploration of the subconscious mind. To me it’s important we share the journey towards positive emotional change as equals. Encouraging understanding of, and freedom from unrealistic expectations and critical judgements you may place upon yourself is at the core of my work.

Some things refuse to be put into words, so I often use imagery and metaphor in my work.

In my years of experience with clients, exploring dreams and the subconscious has often been the key to understanding the origins of negative feelings and thoughts.

My first session

It can be hard, starting therapy. Telling a stranger the story of your most painful experience or memory. Describing the darkness and crippling self-criticism of your thoughts. It might, for some, be the hardest thing they ever do.

I'm good at making this feel easy, well... less hard. There is no pressure, no judgement and no expectation. We set off at your pace in your way. If you want me to slow down or be more challenging, we can agree upon that as we go. I will respect your wishes, and at the same time, I have no interest in having you waste your money by sitting back and continuing therapy when the work is done, or it's simply not working. I will encourage you to challenge me if you feel the need. It's empowering, balanced and ethical.
