About me and my therapy practice

Finding a therapist may feel like a bit of a minefield, especially if it is your first time.

The search to find a suitable match will be different for all of us, but first and foremost, it is important to ensure the therapist you choose to work with is professionally qualified and registered or accredited with a professional body, to ensure best practice and accountability.

I am qualified with an MSc in Counselling Psychology and hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Clinical Practice.

I am an accredited member of both the BACP, and the UKCP, and my details and credentials can be confirmed on their websites.

I am trained as an integrative psychotherapist which means I am not restricted to a particular approach (eg CBT, somatic, psychodynamic), but may use a number of techniques depending on what comes up in our work.

I work relationally, which helps us gain a greater understanding of how we are impacted within our other relationships and I aim to build a secure attachment where it becomes safe to explore issues that can hold us back from being our true selves and releasing our potential to live a more enriched and trouble-free life.

Like all qualified psychotherapists, I am trained to work with a wide range of issues, but some of the areas in which I have a special interest include relationship and family difficulties, exploring identity,  working with anxiety and depression, confronting and making sense of past difficult life events, adjusting to periods of change including those which are work related, those triggered by loss, or facing and exploring difficult decisions and issues concerning pregnancy and childbirth.

Outside of my work as a psychotherapist, I enjoy spending time with my family, friends and dog!  I love walking and being outdoors, and my next challenge is to learn to sail in the Mediterranean!

I enjoy cooking (and eating!) I am interested in interior design, and more recently have developed an interest in music festivals and folk/rock gigs!

Practice description

From my practice, situated in The Old Parsonage, Didsbury, I offer a calm and supportive space, where you can begin to explore and come to terms with what is on your mind.

I will give you the space to work at your own pace as well as a secure framework which will allow us to begin to safely challenge patterns of behaviour.

The sessions are typically 50 minutes long, and usually held weekly at a regular time.

I encourage us both to be real with each other so that you may learn to feel safe enough to be yourself and accepted with whatever you are feeling or experiencing at the time.

Whilst the work will likely lead to some exploration of the past, for the most part, the focus will be on the here and now, and what is happening in the room.

My first session

If you feel you might be interested in working with me, please get in touch using the contact form here, or on my website.

From here we will be able to see if my availability will work for you.

The next step will be to arrange for an assessment, which is a 50-minute appointment that allows me get a greater overall understanding  about what you are looking to work with, and to know whether I am the best person to help. It is also an opportunity for you to see how it feels working with me, and ask any questions you might have.

Following the assessment if we decide to go ahead with therapy, we will likely book your first appointment in at this stage.
