About me and my therapy practice
My name is Ruth Kendrick, I am an experienced counsellor, working with children, young people and adults, face to face at my practice in Weybridge in Surrey.
As a specially trained Play Counsellor, I work with children using non-directive holistic play therapy, an active approach to counselling in which play, rather than talking, is the main means of expression. For children, play is the most natural form of communication. Through child-centred play therapy approaches, a range of issues can be explored, such as separation anxiety or social anxiety.
During my 15 years’ experience, in a variety of school settings, I have worked with trauma, attachment, domestic violence, anxiety, bereavement, bullying, low self-esteem and anger issues. My experience in building strong relationships, creating a safe space and my non-judgemental, confidential approach goes a long way to help children build self-esteem and resilience.
I also have 15 years’ experience working with adults. My approach is person-centred - together we discover your own resources to equip you with long term coping strategies.
Practice description
My theoretical approach to counselling is primarily person-centred however my training enables me to utilise an integrative approach. This enables the offering of both coping strategies and process work to resolve the underlying issue.
My first session
I practice from my office in Weybridge and offer daytime and evenings appointments.
I offer a free 30-minute phone consultation where you can decide if you think we will be able to work together. This also provides an opportunity for us to discuss what you want from your therapy and how we can make it effective.
I offer short term therapy (8-22 sessions) and long-term therapy (15 sessions +) if you prefer.
