About me and my therapy practice
The first step is always the hardest.
I have been supporting families, individuals and young people with complex lives for over two decades privately and within the NHS, Social Care and Education leading me over ten years ago to train as a counsellor and now a psychotherapist.
My compassionate focus is always to uncover the individual behind the experiences and promote their potential and personal insight.
I work with imagery both in the mind and through the use of objects, sand, art materials, photos and images.
I pay attention to the dialogue that is expressed - what you do and don't say to yourself.
I believe we create a number of internal models that work with us or against us, each having their own reasons for their thoughts, feelings and actions.
By understanding and learning from the way they support or defend us we can change our awareness of what is getting in our way and integrate change.
I believe in a co-created way of working taking a 'Sherlock Holmes' approach to therapy from a self-development point of view. Together we will look for meaning, patterns and what's missing, among other things from your experiences and acknowledge what needs to change in order to improve your current situation.
My areas of interest are:
Complex trauma related to relational abuse and hospitalisation.
Anger Focused Therapy (Anger Management)
Chronic Disease - living well, dying well.
Animal Assisted Therapy.
My practice is based in Old Catton, NR6 is currently closed for face to face sessions unless there is a reason why we cannot work on the telephone or via video call.
My first session
Prior to your first session we will have had a half hour consultation so I can understand the reasons you are seeking counselling, take some personal details and establish your preferred method of communication and ensure you understand safeguarding procedures and COVID-19 rules where relevant.
During the first session it is important we establish a way of working together and make sure we are both comfortable to set up further sessions.
