About me and my therapy practice
When you are going through a difficult time, you should be able to call upon a professional and approachable Counsellor to help you through whatever you are struggling with. I am confident that I can provide you with the kind and compassionate support that you deserve.
As your Counsellor, I will treat you as a unique individual by listening to how you are feeling and by seeking to understand you as best as I can. I will counsel you with respect and patience, and will never seek to ‘put you into a box’ or think that I have ‘figured you out’. Whatever you share with me will be treated with the utmost respect and with humility.
You may be sceptical about what counselling can do for you. I cannot guarantee that you will feel much better after a course of counselling with me. However, you may find it reassuring to know that I have shared in the great successes of many individuals whose lives have been significantly changed for the better by the effective counselling I have provided.
The results individuals achieve with me are reflected in the scores they record on well-being questionnaires (completed voluntarily at the beginning and end of counselling) and the highly-complimentary feedback I have received. For example, I have been described as ‘friendly’, ‘easy to talk to’, ‘intuitive’, ‘supportive’, ‘accepting’, ‘encouraging’ and ‘relatable’.
I believe that the key to effective counselling is the relationship which is built with the individual I am counselling. Therefore, I will seek to make you feel comfortable talking about your thoughts, feelings and actions. I aim to achieve this by providing a calm, non-judgmental atmosphere and by striving to see things from your perspective as much as possible.
You may find that empathy and non-judgmental listening are all you need on your journey to feeling much better. However, sometimes you may also benefit from the perspectives, suggestions and practical techniques that I can provide you with. I can equip you with tools that you can take from a counselling session and immediately start applying in your life.
There is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to counselling and, therefore, I believe it is important to have different skills to call upon to suit the unique individual I am counselling.
If your difficulties are to do with an experience from your past, we can explore this together and work on ways to reduce the impact it has on how you feel in the present. However, it is clear to me that not everything is about the past – our every-day thoughts and actions contribute greatly to how we feel about the present and the future. I can help you replace unhelpful thoughts and actions to help you achieve a healthier, happier state of well-being.
