About me and my therapy practice
My background training is Humanistic meaning I work collaboratively with you, the client, being the expert on yourself - there is no hierarchy in the counselling room. The first sessions will centre around building the foundations of a trusting relationship in which you can feel safe whilst exploring your feelings and emotions and how you relate to the world around you. I aim to provide this secure environment using three key elements - empathy, non-judgment and honesty. Your sessions will be led by you dictating the depth of feelings you wish to go and the pace at which we travel. The three modalities that make up Humanistic training are Person Centred (PC), Transactional Analysis (TA) and Gestalt. However, I also have experience in using the tools of CBT and Solution Focussed therapy where appropriate.
I will work as channel through which you can begin to take your first tentative steps towards self-awareness and self-acceptance. I will walk hand in hand with you through each session and endeavour to help you to help yourself by communicating with you in everyday, unpretentious language.
Some of the issues you may struggle with overlap and cannot be pigeon-holed into a specific category. I have the flexibility and fluidity to take this into account and I understand the complexities that make up your individual human condition.
Whether you need a witness who holds a safe space for you to feel heard and seen, help with practical and realistic goal setting or anything in between, I have the experience to tailor make your sessions to your needs.
Practice description
The BACP’s Ethical Framework and guidelines underpin my work thus ensuring your well-being is first and foremost throughout our sessions.
Underneath my therapeutic qualification is a human being with feelings and emotions. I have a wealth of personal experience which enhances my professional world. In the last 21 years, I have supported many people going through the most difficult times of their life including:
Relationship issues
Codependency
Anxiety and/or depression
Loss through bereavement, divorce or a relationship breakdown
Age related cognition and/or mobility decline
Addiction and surviving life in recovery
In addition to my private practice, I continue to work as a voluntary counsellor for a low-cost agency. This ensures I commit to a personal philosophy of therapy being available to everyone.
My first session
I know how daunting it can be to take the first steps in contacting a stranger for help. With this in mind, I offer a free 30-minute online or phone call consultation where I will ask some general questions. This will give us both an opportunity to assess if we can work together – to see if we are a good fit. If you decide you want to embark on your therapeutic journey with me, we can discuss availability in Farnham, Guildford, Weybridge or Woking.
What I can help with
Abuse, Addictions, Anger management, Anxiety, Bereavement, Cancer, Chronic fatigue syndrome / ME, Cultural issues, Depression, Disability, Eating disorders, Health related issues, Loss, Menopause, Mood disorder, Post-traumatic stress, Redundancy, Relationships, Self esteem, Self-harm, Service veterans, Sexuality, Spirituality, Stress, Substance Dependency, Trauma, Women's issues, Work related issues
