About me and my therapy practice
Hello, my name is Noreen. When you are feeling low, sad or lost this just might be the time to seek some professional help where you will be heard, truly listened to and respected. Especially when constantly trying to meet the expectations, needs and wants of others you may have lost sight of yourself and what it means to be you and to feel "real" and you may be struggling with your emotional wellness. Increasingly people are choosing to seek counselling to improve their quality of life and as 1 in 4 of us will experience some sort of mental health difficulty, valuing your emotional health is as important as your physical health.
I am a warm, open-minded and compassionate person. I will not judge you or what you choose to share with me. I am an integrative counsellor, which means I can combine different approaches to work with you in the most effective and flexible way. With previous experience in health care as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse/General Nurse and Health Visitor, I am experienced in supporting people who face a wide range of difficulties and am particularly drawn to how past experiences, especially during childhood, impact on the present, bereavement, grief and loss.
If you are struggling right now, do something for yourself, please get in touch. Together we will explore what's troubling you. Taking the first step towards counselling takes courage and is often not as scary as you might think - make that call, send that email - it might just be the start of something good.
Practice description
Please note that currently during the Covid - 19 Pandemic I offer counselling via the Zoom platform on the internet or telephone only. I hope to be offering face-to-face counselling soon from my Private Practice in Totnes.
Prior to making your decision about whether you wish to start counselling with me I offer a free, no obligation welcome phone call of up to 30 minutes. This helps you to get a sense of whether I would be a counsellor you would feel comfortable talking to and also for me to let you know if I feel able to help you.
The counselling session is a full 60 minutes.
I have counselled adults with a wide range of issues and am particularly experienced and drawn to bereavement, grief and loss, and unresolved trauma.
I offer both short term, 6-12 sessions, and longer term therapy - the choice is yours. We will review the counselling periodically to make sure that you are feeling ok with how things are progressing.
My first session
Our first session is really an introduction for us to talk about what is concerning you to come into counselling, what's happening in your life, what you might be hoping to get out of counselling and how we will work together. I will talk through my counselling agreement with you and carry out a short assessment.
The first session will also give you more of an idea about whether I'm the right counsellor for you. Because I strongly believe that the therapeutic relationship is all important to the outcome of counselling it is very important for me to ensure that you are happy to proceed.
