About me and my therapy practice

I am qualified as an Integrative Psychotherapist/Counsellor, using various theories to address a variety of concerns, these include:

  • Person Centred (Client Talking Therapy)
  • Psychodynamic (Exploring childhood and deep rooted issues)
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (Working together to resolve present day concerns)
  • Solution Focused (A goal directed collaborative approach)
  • Transactional Analysis: A form of modern psychology that involves a set of practical conceptual tools designed to promote personal growth and change.
  • Transpersonal: This is a holistic practice concerned with the body, mind and spirit. Taking an holistic approach allows for viewing life and life experiences as part of the larger process of spiritual development.

Existential Therapy focuses on free will, self-determination, and the search for meaning, often cantering on you rather than on the symptom. The approach emphasises your capacity to make rational choices and to develop to your maximum potential.

Integrative Therapy is a combined approach to psychotherapy that brings together different elements of specific therapies. Integrative therapists take the view that there is no single approach that can treat each client in all situations.

I also amalgamate science with spirituality, identifying that we have the power of our internal strength, to change the structure of our brain.

You can eliminate old thought patterns and habits, and create new, by way of Neuroplasticity.

I am available for home visits and offices apt’s, also walk & talk (between April & Sept).

Walk & Talk Therapy is conducted outdoors; being surrounded by nature can be meditative and grounding.

Practice description

I am qualified as an Integrative Counsellor, using various theories to address a variety of concerns.

With this qualification I am able to treat conditions such as Childhood Trauma, PTSD, anxiety, also depression, to name a few.

Client well-being and safety is paramount. The Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions states that we ‘put clients first’ and that the practitioner must be trustworthy, have respect for the client’s right to be self-governing, be committed to promoting client well-being, to avoiding harm, and be fair and impartial to all clients (BACP, 2016).

I adhere to promote these attributes, enabling client's to reach their full potential.

I offer a mobile facility (home visits), as I identify clients feel more comfortable in their own home than in an office environment. This in turn allows for a more relaxed connection between myself and my client, and so enables our therapeutic relationship to thrive, resulting in optimum healing.

My first session

What to expect in your first session

Finding a counsellor you feel comfortable with is so important, and so to give new clients peace of mind, I always use the first meeting as a chance for us to both find out whether we’ll work well together. Therefore our initial session of 30 minutes is completely free.

In this first session we will discuss your expectations from counselling and what, as a trained counsellor, I can help you with.

I will explain ethical issues with you such as contracting and ethical boundaries. We will also discuss practical issues such as times for and frequency of the sessions.

From there, you can decide if I am the right counsellor for you.

Many people ask how long counselling lasts, although it varies for every person. We can work on the challenges and difficulties for a ten week period initially, then the decision is yours whether to continue with more sessions.

What to expect from counselling

People turn to counselling because they are feeling pain, this can include grieving (loss of person close to them, or loss of a way of life), trauma (which happened as an adult, or as a child) also debility, due to loss of control over their lives.

Together, we can identify the root cause of this situation, and agree on ways to resolve the current dilemma, allowing you to feel better about yourself and the world around you.

This can be achieved by viewing the various angles i.e. physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

To promote self-care is not selfish, it is a necessity. We must look after ourselves in the same way we look after others, although we must make this our priority to ensure our own well being.

Above all there is hope and trust, in a brighter future, and in yourself, to do what is right for you, and achieve positive changes.

About me and my therapy practice

In respect of a supervisory role, I  offer a supportive and empathic alliance allowing us both to learn and grow.

We are both counsellors and so can learn from each other, and yet I still identify my role as being one of support and guidance, allowing you to become the best counsellor you can be, in respect of knowledge and confidence.

Practice description

I provide a holistic approach to all of my interactions, identifying that we can look at the bigger picture of ourselves. This is in incorporating all elements of our being, physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.

I embrace all outlooks and believe that we are all here to learn and evolve, and so embracing that we can all learn from each other allows for an exchange of energy. This in turn facilitates growth for both supervisor and supervisee in all elements of our being.

My first session

Our first appointment in supervision is for you to identify if I am the correct supervisor for you.

I accept that people need to feel comfortable in order to engage, and that it could also take time to build up trust in someone.

Although I also identify that first impressions can be quite valuable.

But, ultimately a supervisee chooses a supervisor and so this is your call, and so, I am accepting of whatever decision you make after our initial appointment.
