About me and my therapy practice

I have worked in the health and social care sector for my whole working life and therefore have experience working with a cross section of people facing different challenges. I understand that difficulties arise from a combination of circumstances; including temperament and personality, current or past adverse life experiences, difficult relationships, social isolation, early attachment issues and losses, poverty, inequality and discrimination.

I have a special interest in working with people who have suffered trauma or distress as a result of difficult childhood experiences – particularly childhood physical, sexual, emotional abuse and neglect.

I welcome clients who would like to work on identity issues particularly about being White and the meaning and implications of this in your life and relationships. Individuals from all helping professions are particularly welcome.

I have extensive experience working with disabled people; including those living with mobility, physical and sensory challenges, chronic health conditions and specific learning difficulties; such as Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, ADHD and Autism.

Practice description

I have 12 years therapeutic experience’ and am a BACP registered and UKCP accredited psychotherapist.

I work relationally, which means we will work together to forge a collaborative, and secure bond to help you to improve the important relationships in your life. I will help you to seek a better understanding of the way you relate to significant others. Through working together, we will gain insight about how your past and current relationships may be impacting on your mental and emotional well-being.

I use a three-stage model of recovery from traumatic experiences, which includes safety and stabilization, processing trauma (if required) and moving on from trauma, reconnecting and getting on with life.

I am increasingly offering Lifespan Integration (LI) to help people heal the deep wounds that talking therapy can be difficult to reach. I use an approach called Internal Family Systems (IFS) which works well alongside LI. Please see my website for more information.
