About me and my therapy practice
Perhaps you have noticed you are becoming increasingly anxious over things which used to just bounce off you? Or are depressed following the loss of a loved one, a change in employment, or just that life in general is getting you down. You might even have noticed that a habit you previously developed to simply let off steam is becoming addictive and unhelpful? Maybe a relationship, either current or past, is proving to be something you are struggling to cope with?
Contrary to popular myth seeing a therapist regarding any of the above doesn't expose a weakness or a failing in you, but rather strength. Reaching out to someone else, and in doing so facing up to the fact that we have a problem we cannot solve on our own, requires courage. And if shame was stopping you from doing so before, remember that the antidote to shame is sharing.
I am a fully qualified counsellor who has sat where you are right now, not just because our training requires us to have personal therapy, but because my life also became unmanageable. I reached out to Gamblers Anonymous (GA) in 2009 when I realised that gambling had cost me a complete loss of self. I later went to work as a a voluntary prison liaison officer for GA, which included running meetings inside prisons, and from that decided to became qualified beyond simply listening.
I trained at the Gestalt Centre in London, acknowledged as one of the world's leading centres for psychotherapy and counselling. This included the huge benefit of my working as a pro bono counsellor at the mental health charity MIND for more than two years, and in doing so watching people turn their lives around through empathy and support.
I offer sessions starting at £40 for 50 minutes to students and the low waged, moving up to £65 if they see me in East London, and £85 in Clerkenwell (the extra £20 is required to cover the room hire).
