About me and my therapy practice
If you are reading this, then you may well be considering taking a step towards reaching out for help. Maybe you need some support through something difficult, or maybe life has felt difficult for a while with things that you are struggling to understand and change alone.
Whatever it is you are going through, counselling and psychotherapy offer you a space to safely explore your thoughts and feelings, understand your reactions to situations, and learn new ways to cope with difficulties. In my professional experience, this leads to a greater understanding of self, and an improved sense of well-being.
I am an experienced BACP registered counsellor and psychotherapist, and I support clients experiencing depression, anxiety, stress, low self esteem, grief, trauma, and difficulties with relationships, as well as many other presenting issues. I also have a extensive experience of working with adults and adolescents affected by sexual violence or abuse.
Whilst Cognitive Behavioural Therapy lies at the core of my qualifications, and I have since completed qualifications in other modalities such as Transactional Analysis, research suggests that it isn't the modality that is brought into practice that makes all the difference in effective therapy. It's actually the therapeutic relationship built between client and therapist that matters the most. Feeling able to trust your therapist and being able to create a space together within which to identify and explore patterns, and work towards meaningful and lasting change, is what is most essential to effective therapy. With this in mind, I offer a free telephone consultation to anyone considering working with me.
I believe that everyone has the potential to make sense of their lives, to understand how problems arise, and to make conscious decisions and changes which will improve their everyday experience.
I offer one to one appointments at my practice based in central Leamington Spa.
I am also able to offer counselling appointments either online, or on the telephone.
I typically work with clients on a weekly or fortnightly basis, but we will be able to work together at intervals to suit you, your goals and your needs.
Sessions last for 60 minutes.
My first session
I understand that reaching out for help can feel difficult, and the idea of meeting with a counsellor for the first time can feel very daunting.
I offer a telephone consultation, free of charge, to anyone considering working with me. This allows you to ask any questions that you might have about counselling, or about how I practice, and hopefully help you to feel more at ease about the process. It also gives you an opportunity to get a better idea about whether you feel that I am the right therapist for you to choose to work with.
Should you decide to work with me, your first session will be a chance for us to get to know each other a little better. It will include an assessment, which allows us to get a shared understanding of what has led you to consider therapy right now, as well as discussing what you hope to gain from therapy, and how we may work together to achieve that. I modify and adapt how I work with each person to suit their needs, beliefs and preferences, choosing techniques drawn from a range of methods including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Transactional Analysis, Person-Centred Counselling, and Mindfulness.
If you feel comfortable at the end of this session, we will discuss future sessions and create a plan that works for you.
