About me and my therapy practice
My role as your counsellor is to support and help you with the issues you bring to counselling.
By talking together about your issues, your emotional feelings and thoughts, we begin to gather understanding and knowledge about who you are and what, why and how you see yourself; yourself within your own world and the wider world. None of us are immune to trauma, sadness, loss or challenging experiences. How we manage ourselves within them is often the struggle. When we don't understand we often feel powerless and helpless. We become fearful of how this feels. We avoid or deny our feelings to protect ourselves yet get trapped or stuck. A vicious cycle begins, which is hard to break.
As you begin to talk and share with me, you will access feelings you may have suppressed for a long time. The sense of freedom you will have when you begin to unlock those difficult feelings and memories will empower you to move forward. It will be hard and scary, so with my support, we can do it together. Building trust with me will take time and I go at your pace. We allow the therapy to evolve naturally.
Practice descriptionI work with the Person Centred Approach, which is a talking therapy offering the core conditions of empathy, unconditional positive regard for each of my clients and genuine care and consideration for my clients’ autonomy. It is important for my clients to be able to trust me with their personal difficulties and I am a warm friendly person who will work with you at your own pace. I also adapt Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Transactional Analysis (TA) into my work where it may benefit the client. Every client is unique so it is important to be flexible and treat each client's individuality with care and respect. I wish to help my clients achieve the best outcomes from counselling.
My first session
I charge for all sessions including the first. Finding a therapist which suits you may take time so I do not enter into any long term therapy contracts. The sessions evolve and develop from week to week. However I do encourage clients to commit to 4-6 sessions once they decide they wish to work with me.
First sessions are like an introduction to a book. The client will often tell me what is concerning them and it may all come out in a rush. I will listen and support the client as they unravel. If the client wishes to engage with further sessions, we will collaborate and work together at the client's pace.
